3) ✅ validation > focus
❌ no validation > move on
My biggest mistake was not quitting early.
The more I work on a startup, the more attach I get, the harder it is to move on.
The hit rate for most entrepreneurs is 5%.
I’d rather place 20 small bets than spend 2 years doubling down on the wrong one.

I’m not saying “no design.” I’m saying most apps can get away with just nailing the fundamentals.
Not every app needs layers of “visual expression,” motion, personality, or over-design-engineering in pursuit of delight.
What really matters when you want to get work done are: speed, obvious UX, good defaults, clear behavior. That works every time.
The interface design should stay out of the way.
I’m arguing for “design is how it works.” Do this first.
I don’t want to notice your UI. I want to see my content.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t care if most web apps look the same. All I care about is whether it does what it says and does it fast. Make it fast. Make the UX obvious. Put the right things in the right place and little to no animations.

I have this working theory that you don't know anything about your product (CTR, conversion rate, etc) until you get to 1,000,000 impressions. And I have zero data to back that up. So that's where I'm at.

OpenAI just launched a deployment company with 19 consulting firms attached. AKA an Ai Implementation Agency but at a larger scale. None of them are taking calls from a $5M agency. Every founder I’ve talked to the last 4 weeks is doing $2M to $30M. They have the same problem the enterprise has. Manual ops, broken workflows, 20 tools that don’t talk. The difference is they can’t afford a 6 month enterprise engagement and 14 stakeholders signing off. That’s the gap and it’s bigger than the enterprise market they’re chasing.

@levelsio how do you feel about free tier levels? More specifically if you're doing AI image/video, free generations to allow users to try it before purchasing... I am not getting the conversions I would like.
Most likely, it's probably that my product is just not good enough to convert to paid.... or maybe I'm giving away too much.

Coinbase confirms they deliberately had no multi-zone support for their global trading service: meaning they knew if the AZ went down it operated in, all trading would stop.
So all trading stopped for 8 hours yesterday.
They will now (finally?) look into multi-AZ

We experienced an outage at Coinbase last night, which is never acceptable. The root cause was a room overheating in an AWS datacenter when multiple chillers failed. We design our services to be redundant to downtime in any one AWS Availability Zone (AZ), and most of our systems worked this way last night, but not all. Our centralized exchange did not. Exchanges have unique architectures that optimize for latency and co-location of clients. It is possible to make exchanges resistant to AZ failures, but this can introduce latency delays that are not desirable along with breaking customer co-location. Given this incident, we'll revisit these tradeoffs to ensure we're giving you the best possible venue to trade. At a minimum, the duration of an outage should be able to be reduced considerably when an AZ move is needed. Thank you to the AWS and Coinbase teams for working through the night to mitigate the issue. We’ll share the detailed technical summary once it's ready.
