Sharing experience for junior PI colleagues Started my lab in 2014, got tenure in 2019 1st R01 got fundable score in 2015 subsequently 5 R01s NOT discussed 2 R01s NOT funded 2 P01s (co-I) NOT funded 1 STTR NOT discussed Finally 2nd R01 with +fund score last week on A1 🙏😅

Looking to help improve diversity in academic medicine? Invite black speakers to give talks, not about diversity, but about their area of interest. Invite them to named lectureships, ask them to serve on scientific panels, etc. help promote and retain black faculty in academics.

The bottom line is #academia is top down so #diversity has to be executed that way, not bottom up. IMO a homogeneous group of leaders simply can execute genuine policies on this. Diversity needs to move beyond the “pilot and feasibility phase” and if institutions are serious
