𝗔𝗹-𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗮 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa: 📌 Syria’s economy declined from $60 billion in 2010, with conditions deteriorating significantly in the following years. 📌 Government spending reached $2 billion in 2024, while GDP rose to around $32 billion in 2025 after growth of 30–35%, with a budget surplus recorded for the first time. 📌 The 2026 budget is set at about $10.5 billion, nearly five times higher than 2024. 📌 GDP is expected to reach $60–65 billion this year, returning to 2010 levels and improving public services.

@taipan168 @rik_vdk This allows us to have a Sovereign supply chain in many critical industries such as defence and Railways.
Being able to onshore as much of the defence supply chain as possible for example is something that pays large dividends if Australia's shipping lanes become contested

That money will pay itself back in spades if we lose access to foreign fuel refineries. We cannot expect private business to take into account Sovereign risk.

Bloody hell... here we go again. More corporate welfare on the taxpayers' dime. Fuel will cost more, as a result. No, not at the pump, but the pump price *plus* the portion of your taxes that prop these places up.
