@Romanos911 @HabemusMalleum I don’t think you have to be intimately familiar with America to understand this hymn. It fits the Prosomia (‘Rejoice’, Pl. 1st Mode), it’s theologically accurate, and it befits him.
English

@HabemusMalleum Better than that the ones already being worked on wouldn't make sense to anyone specifically not familiar with America

@Sola_Requiem If we see a lack of piety amongst women, it is our fault because it means we were impious first. Let’s endeavor to be pious, and witness to others without judging them.
English

Christian women in the 14th century:
“Forgive me, Father, for I slept with a man before marriage. For penance, I will live the rest of my days in celibacy at a convent.”
Christian women in the 21st century:
“So what if I slept with over a hundred guys in college? Jesus said ‘judge not’ somewhere. I deserve a good husband with no consequences or accountability for my past!”
English

@Sola_Requiem It’s not typical to have the window behind your bed, unless the window is offset from it.
English

@katherineortho -they’re not yet ready to be a spouse for their future spouse, and so they should shape themselves to be. Marriage doesn’t demand perfection, so we should demand perfection as we seek it. Both sides need to hear this.
English

@KalebAtlanta It can sometimes be an indication, but that is genuinely terrible advice…
English

@PhotiosOfGA @AngloVarangian This is really only a big city thing — I’ve never seen it in a small to mid-size parish.
With that being said, I think you’re right but I also can’t judge the priest who’s overworked and likely fed up with cases like this.
English

Americans are incapable of understanding this. Talk to any Greek at a Greek Church. These fees only apply to people who never attend Church yet still want to use their local Parish as a country club for personal and family events. Active Parishoners aren't charged this. It's not simony, it's saying if you're gonna treat the Church like a country club, it's going to charge you like a country club.

Baptism is ONLY $250.00 for Orthodox.

@EthanWayne2001 And yet they are very clearly pulling from earlier material, such as the Didascalia, which has almost as explicit, if not more, rules for the governance of the Church.

@PhotiosOfGA The apostolic canons were composed in the 4th century
English

You mean the Origen that was tortured for months and still refused to renounce Christ? The Origen who died of the injuries he suffered for the sake of Christ?
Yeah, he was definitely a fake Christian, because he thoonked too hard, a sin we know Father Seraphim was not tempted by.

@EthanWayne2001 The extent of Episcopal Authority was actually quite clear — the Apostolic Canons, St. Irenaeus, and other sources are quite explicit about the authority of the Bishop over his diocese.
Again, talk to one of the clergymen from ROCOR who saw this transition period.
English

I just find it curious how every excuse is made for Philaret and ROCOR, while no grace is extended to a martyr.
Cutting off communion with “world Orthodoxy”, anathematizing them, and entering communion with Old Calendarists is quickly dismissed as mere irregularity.
But a dispute with one’s bishop in an era where the extent of episcopal authority wasn’t even entirely clear? Unforgivable, of course, even should you lay down your life for Christ.
If only Origen had called his bishop a heretic and communist asset, then maybe he’d have avoided such condemnation.
English

@EthanWayne2001 -was limited, and not something the entirety of the Synod engaged in or even sought).
We have voices who were alive during such a period (Fr. John Whiteford, among others), and they can attest to the facts here.
English

@EthanWayne2001 -the way they did, afaik.
We’ve also already discussed the ways in which ROCOR maintained communion, albeit irregular, with “world” Orthodoxy. As for their communion with Old Calendarists, it was likewise irregular and only reflects on the bishops who communed with them (which-
English

@EthanWayne2001 @paisiosdavis @ConvincedO Should we really be in the business of denying that people repented, or acting as if we are the judge of what suffices for repentance?
English

@paisiosdavis @ConvincedO An unproven death bed statement doesn’t negate the countless times Rose called us “World Orthodox” heretical.
English

Father Seraphim Rose:
“I think we should do just what he accuses us of doing: forget the other Orthodox (with a few exceptions, like Mt. Athos and the Old Calendarists, who still take Orthodoxy seriously), and concentrate on Russians and on American converts. Our adherence to the Church Outside of Russia should be made clear from the beginning; that will help frighten off at least some of the well-meaning who think they are as "Orthodox" as anyone; all their cooperation would have as its object the attempt to drag us into the mire of ecumenism and compromise.”

English

@EthanWayne2001 I know of people who responded positively to either way, so I was just noting that either can work. It’s why Seminaries spend so much time on pastoral care — our Priests need the discernment & care to know which medicine to apply and when.
English

@PhotiosOfGA Maybe, I don’t know. There are no easy answers on this. But I think a gradual approach is usually best.

He’s right though
