@Benathon @TrisH0x2A yeah I wasn't thinking you'd need a for loop at all to do this in the most "natural" way

@PipingJam @TrisH0x2A But this way skips the first i=0 of the for loop. Something a static i could still do but not with the for loop logic. Or an empty first ;

in 2000 a programmer discovered you can implement coroutines in C using the same switch trick as Duff's Device it's called Tatham's Coroutine. it still compiles and is technically valid C he used it in production inside PuTTY (the SSH client used by millions) Simon Tatham's own words: "As far as I know, this is the worst piece of C hackery ever seen in serious production code."

@burkov I think the 2nd and 3rd dotpoint were meant to be nested under the the first one? Maybe a formatting bug? That seems like a plausible way it's making 3 "properties"

Always remember that when an LLM prints the beginning of a text, it has no idea what the end will be. Therefore, when it says "The answer is yes, and this is why:" the text after "why" would most likely be a very elaborate lie combined with gaslighting in case "yes" was the wrong answer.

@ryanjchr I worked near Central for 15 years; this place on Elizabeth st was empty the entire time.

There are so many decrepit old buildings around Central that keep getting adaptively reused when they just need to be knocked the fuck down and replaced. Spend any amount of time in a Surry Hills office, or look at the absurdly poor use of housing as fashion wholesaler outlets.
Sydney YIMBY@SydneyYIMBY

Why are we “adaptive reusing” an 8 storey building next to Central with terrible livability outcomes instead of knocking it down and building something that can house 5x as many people?

@TrisH0x2A Like the non macro way of writing this specific generator function is so much easier to understand, but maybe not the case for more general generators

@TrisH0x2A Static variables in c make it easy enough to hand write generators whenever you need them anyway, but this is cool I guess too

@10footinvestor Yea I guess the thing I do like least about it is that the "little protected niche" still exists and it's new property (only way to negative hear and get 50% discount, I think?)

The one good thing CGT did is raise the question of how we contribute. TBH i've been disappointed in how many people responded with: "I want you to carve out a little protected niche just for me so i can contribute less" and you know what's really fucking funny about this

There's a lot of people out there who simultaneously think: -Bringing a few thousand houses onto the market via banning Airbnb will be transformative -Building new houses doesn't do anything to improve affordability unless they're below market rate housing Hard to square imo!

@XavierORourke @taipan168 I think the issue is, a successful, or even failing business temporarily, provides more value than speculating on already built property. By taxing both the same you're not encouraging the creation of new businesses that employe people, and provide products/services to others

Please explain? If an employee makes 300k in a year working at a company - wouldn't the company only be willing to pay this if they expected this person's impact on the company's market cap was greater than 300k? Why should this worker get taxed extra compared the shareholder? Also, can you please point to any real world example of a business being sold in Australia where the seller actually paid CGT on the full sale price?

This is exactly why the capital gains when a successful business is sold should not be taxed at close to 47%. Starting a business is hard and risky and most fail, but we want to encourage people to take this risk, not discourage them.
ARTHUR FRIEND@psyclaw

Young woman on 7.30 criticising budget. Says young people see starting a business best way to become home owner. But budget CGT changes means starting up a business is disadvantaged. Could some kind person tell her that less than 50% of new businesses survive 3 years. Taa.
