We asked young people to take on record student debt, pay 9% extra tax on their earnings to service it, compete for housing they can’t afford, save into pensions that won’t be enough, and fund the retirement of the largest generation in history through their taxes. And then we wonder why birth rates are collapsing.

@miriam_cates If you spent 40 years working, paying NI + making plans for retirement income including State Pension not sure you can just take it away. Any reform would need at least 10 years notice to introduce and will only affect all those shouting loudest to take it away

Opponents of non-means tested state pension claim that those who paid tax during their working lives are entitled to this state handout. But by that logic, wealthy working age taxpayers should be allowed to claim Universal Credit. The welfare state is based on high earners paying a lot of tax while not being entitled to benefits. Why should this only apply to under the 67s?
Miriam Cates@miriam_cates

“Reform’s commitment to keep the triple lock is the final nail in the coffin for the hope of pension reform from the Right. Britain’s young people are now condemned to pay through the nose for the retirement of the wealthiest generation in history.” ✍️👇 conservativehome.com/2026/04/08/mir…

I’m 32 years old and I want to change the state pension. With the triple lock, based on historical growth (4.5%) when I reach my pension age. The state pension will be £30,100 a year. This would account for £512bn a year. The current government budget is 1.2Trn. This would be 3x the current NHS budget. The triple lock is unsustainable. Now the debate, no one is saying that pensioners shouldn’t recieve support. That goes without saying. But there shouldn’t be a non-means tested, non contribution based pension which gives everyone blanket support. Especially when you consider 1 in 4 of over 60 years are asset millionaires. My view is, we need to have a means tested only state pension. Which is reassessed every 3 years. There is no “pot” people pay into, national insurance is just a tax - there is no ring fenced fund for a state pension. It comes directly from taxation ever annum. Without changes like this, young people will suffer while older people - who receive their pension and political protection because they actively vote - will continue to have a glorious quality of life.
Good Morning Britain@GMB

More than 12 million pensioners will see their state pension rise 4.8% today under the triple lock. But the government has been accused of doing too little for working-age households so is it time to scrap the triple lock?

@HasAhmed_ 35 years ago we were happy to get on the market with a 1 bed flat. Nowadays average house price always quoted as unaffordable for a mortgage. Starting with a 3 bed-semi is unrealistic.

Ben Leo is one of the most hard-working and dedicated journalists in British media today. He rose to where he is as a presenter for @GBNEWS through sheer hard work and dedication. He is also a real patriot and loves his country, which is great to see in this day and age.
Ben Leo@benleo444

Yeah I suddenly walked into a TV presenting job with the click of a finger… I worked in Sainsbury’s, for EDF Energy, the water board, call centres, all from age 17, just to get money. I didn’t care what job I did, I just needed to support myself. I said yes to everything, trusting that I’d one day get there and everything would work itself out. I didn’t turn down jobs because it wasn’t my field or what I wanted or dreamed of right that minute or think I was above anything or anyone. I had no money. I never went to uni. I saved hard for a £5,000 journalism course, I then worked like a dog at local newspapers (still on minimum wage) and at a bookmaker at the same time doing 20 hour days for years just to keep grinding. I spent more hard years commuting to London and back, doing graveyard shifts at papers then waiting at Blackfriars station at 3 in the morning to get home to Sussex and start my other job at 9am. It nearly killed me. For years. 16 years it took me to get here. And you know what? I loved it all. I loved the journey, I loved the dark moments asking myself if it was all worth it. I loved the wins. I loved the hard lessons. And I love what I’m doing now. Yes I have the best job in the world (for me) and I’m incredibly grateful. And I’m still grinding. I’ve just done 14 days straight, travelling to Texas, Florida, then DC. Doing a three hour show every night. But I recognise how fortunate I am. I always have, even when I was stacking shelves. I didn’t just turn up at a studio and start presenting. Most importantly I never played the victim.

@shivmalik Ur making a basic miscalculation. It’s about the entry level 1- bed flat you buy, not the 4 bed detached you end up in 40 years later

Dear boomers, can you afford to buy the house you live in currently with the wage you used to earn before you retired? If you can’t, then that’s the whole housing problem in a nutshell. It really is that simple to understand.

A super easy place to start with pension reform. If you get a public sector pension above £20,000 per annum you lose your state pension. This is easy for the Gov to track and should be phased in gradually so it's £20k for 2040.

I don’t know @scott_mills and haven’t met him But if we’re truly at the stage where a man can lose everything… based on an accusation the police themselves didn’t think warranted further action, that seems unfair and wrong. If there’s nothing more to this- and that’s a big if- then we’ve reached a v worrying place. Accusations don’t mean guilt. We need to know if there’s more behind this, or if this is the BBC massively over- correcting their Huw Edwards inaction.

Reform UK’s candidate Anas Huggan is actually Anas El-Hamri. This isn’t the first time he’s deleted a Twitter account. He had one under his previous name that he swiftly deleted when we exposed him as a Britain First supporter. Great vetting again @reformparty_uk. x.com/reformexposed/…
