@GergelyOrosz @karpathy Yeah no thanks… we don’t want this. This is something that a company should control and not be delegated to Anthropic.

@Teknium Ask the question why this guys is CONSTANTLY doing press tours. Ask yourself this Tek. It is because part of the business is the message play. It is really gross and we should fight it and put this guy back in his box. He has an outsized soapbox and it is dangerous for everyone.

The insufferable arrogance of academics. I sometimes feel really embarrassed to call myself a member of academia.😒

To be very clear, this is how these companies go out of business. Period. You cannot fund 2 billion dollar training runs if you have to beg the government to grant access to customers. The second order effects of this are the economic boom grinding to a halt, investment drying up, these companies going into the red even more, startups everywhere smashed on the rocks, the stock market crashing (which has been nothing but a big bet on AI for the past few years) and retirement accounts wiped out, public trust shattering, and world-wide foaming at the mouth rage at being cut off that creates a powerful pendulum swinging in another direction to find a solution.

About 100 organizations got access to fable 5/mythos 5 again. Department of commerce is slowly lifting the embargo for those models. However, I still think that public access will remain heavily restricted—either with significantly stricter guardrails or a lobotomized model.

Sam Altman doesn't understand AI. Dario Amodei understands a narrow slice of it. Demis Hassabis understands a wider subset, but still with large gaps.

What a dark future. Super-intelligence in the hands of a select few. They can use the latest models to exploit your software, but you’re not allowed to use those models to make your software more secure. How utterly dystopian.
Matthew Berman@MatthewBerman

Anthropic just struck a deal with the government to allow 100 select companies and governmental agencies use Mythos. The government and anthropic are now deciding who uses frontier intelligence. Hopefully this is just Mythos and not the standard for all frontier models going forward.

So let me get this straight: 1. We publish frontier models 2. They get distilled into cheap open source models 3. US companies adopt the same open source models because they're good enough and much cheaper 4. We start gating access to frontier models What next? US companies innovate less? Open source models become more attractive?
