I think many executives currently look at AI-generated software and think: "Wow. It's already 90% there." What they often underestimate is that the remaining 10% is not 10% of the work. A senior developer reviewing a 5,000-line AI-generated pull request often has to spend hours just understanding the architectural choices, hidden assumptions and how all the pieces fit together. At that point you're no longer "adding a few fixes". You're reverse-engineering a codebase that appeared out of nowhere in five minutes. And many senior developers absolutely hate that kind of work. Most don't want to become full-time reviewers of machine-generated spaghetti while spending their days writing specifications and documentation for an AI instead of building software themselves. AI is extremely good at creating the impression that we're "almost there". But "almost there" can still hide enormous amounts of engineering, maintenance and human responsibility underneath.

Here's the thing no one wants to tell you about AI: 1. It's the worlds largest Python script 2. It runs on Linux, Windows Defender slows it down 3. It uses lots of numbers (nobody knows why) 4. It requires a bunch of GPUs (for gaming) 5. No, you can't have sex with it

I'm 22 years old and Claude Code is deteriorating my brain. Every single day for the last 6 months I've had 6 to 8 Claude Code terminals open, waiting for a response just so I can hit 'enter' 75% of the time. And it's doing something to me. In convos with a couple of friends, it's been a point that's been brought up pretty frequently. None of us feel as sharp as we used to. I don't know if it's just us, or others in their 20s are feeling the same thing, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot. P.S. I know this is a problem with my reliability/usage of it, not Claude Code itself, but the effects are real nonetheless

I’ve been grinding hard on AI for the better part of the last 8+ months - learning, building, adapting, and pulling late nights just like so many others right now. Cutting through the FUD and hype, there is real potential here. Industry-breaking potential. The era we’ve been waiting for - to finally supercharge and develop the tools and platforms we’ve wanted to build for years - is here, and agent assistance is accelerating everything. With coding agents, I’ve built solid tools and had research breakthroughs that would have taken weeks or months before. These should feel like real wins worth celebrating. But honestly? I don’t feel victorious. In many ways, it just feels necessary to keep pace. As Dave said: adapt or be left behind - and for good reason. I’m not ready to be left behind. But damn, I’m tired. I’m tired of constantly reinventing myself. Tired of constantly re-tooling. Tired of the endless cycle of keeping up, the late nights, and the personal sacrifices that come with it. I’ve even lost the desire to share knowledge and research with the community the way I used to. From the conversations I’ve had, I’m far from alone - many others in this space feel the same but don’t necessarily vocalize it outside of smaller circles. Is it because I see AI purely as a threat? Not really. The offensive side of our industry has been heading this way for a while, and I’ve been moving with it. The truth is, the excitement Dave describes is real - but for me right now, it’s mixed with exhaustion. I’m grateful for the breakthroughs, yet I catch myself wondering how long I can sustain this level of constant reinvention without something giving. The early-2000s energy is back, sure… but so is the burnout that often came with it. Being a bit older now, with young kids at home, the pace hits differently. I don’t have the same endless energy I once did, and the late nights and constant context-switching carry a heavier weight. Finding balance is tough, but it feels more important than ever. Hopefully we can all figure out how to ride this wave more sustainably - without burning out in the process.

@BethesdaSupport Can you also adress and fix that V.A.T.S. Issue where 80%-95% chance to hit misses target 10 times in a row? Or what you hit a target and not doing any damage to the health, all you see is damage dealt but they are invincible until you shoot them outside V.A.T.S.
