On #Adipurush, I am getting a lot of flak for this tweet, just for saying that @omraut deserves a chance! I get it that a lot of people did NOT like the movie. That’s your right. I haven’t seen it yet, but I will, this coming week. But what I don’t get are the accusations of ‘paid tweet’. In ALL the years that I have been on social media, I have NOT done ANY paid promotion EVER! Even on Instagram, where I get daily offers from saree brands to promote them, I have refused saying I don’t believe in paid promotions. I have promoted friends, small enterprises that employ women and weavers I have bought from, only after I have bought from them, and only when I am convinced of their credibility. Every brand or small entrepreneur I have promoted like can vouch for this. You can question me on my judgement, you can question me on being naive enough to believe in good intentions of team #Adipurush. You can even criticise me for my choice in movies. But to say this is a ‘paid tweet’ without a shred of proof is sickening. I do NOT need to work for money by Ganesha’s grace. People who know me personally know this well. It hurts to have my credibility questioned for one tweet. I know some of you will STILL say I did ‘paid promotion’ for #Adipurush, even after this clarification, but I can’t do anything to stop the outrage brigade. I can only clarify that I did not receive a single rupee or any favour from team #Adipurush. I genuinely believed @OmRaut deserved a chance. And I am still going to give him that by watching the movie by buying a ticket and making up my mind. Believe it if you will, if you don’t, that’s your choice too. I don’t care about the outrage of fake anonymous handles, but even people who have followed my work closely, who have known the various social causes I support with my own money, jumping on this bandwagon of ‘paid promotion’ is hurtful. I understand that it is the nature of the beast called social media that people can get very vicious. As always, every hurt teaches you a lesson. This episode has taught me a lot.
