Pre-orders for the LA-1 will be opening tonight at 9 PM Eastern! The estimated fulfillment we are putting at Late August to hopefully account for any potential delays that may occur. This first batch will be limited as we only produced 3000 units worldwide. We will explain our reasoning below.
Creating our own mouse has been no easy task and has definitely been a learning experience for us. Our shape is custom and not an OEM/ODM offering. Most of the wait time was due to designing the internal structure and ironing out issues with the build and problems that occurred during use. We tested 5 different generations of samples and approved the 6th for reference. Our manufacturer has been amazing and very patient with the entire process and has been exceedingly helpful (granted there have been some language barrier issues that also caused delays😅).
Our goal with the LA-1 was shape and performance. No frills, no marketing gimmicks, no fancy features (at least not with the first release). We want to make sure there are as little issues as possible with the release. It is always nerve racking going from samples to mass production though. This is especially true for mice due to all the components and moving parts involved. Mass production units can differ from samples as when volume is scaled up so are the chances for issues to occur. Mice are assembled by people at a factory after all so there is always room for human error. This is why we kept the design as simple as possible for assembly. That being said, there will always be issues that arise that no matter how many precautions you take. There will also be certain use case scenarios that customers may experience that cause problems as well. We did have a wide testing group and amazing feedback, but there are always edge cases. That brings us to the next point.
This first batch is limited so we can closely monitor feedback on literally everything. We will be looking for any and all feedback regarding - coating, components, click feel, structure, performance, etc. All of this will be taken in to consideration and presented to the manufacturer as well. Our goal with Batch 2 will be to implement any and all changes that may be needed as well as scale up production quantities. The manufacturer is ready to implement any changes that may be needed as soon as possible as well. We want to eliminate as much time between Batch 1 and Batch 2 as we can as we know waiting can be frustrating.
What does this mean for you, the customer? We have tested many generations of samples to make sure you are not the testers. We are happy with the samples we approved for production as they have undergone a plethora of testing. That being said, our previous points about mass production and specific use cases still hold true. If any issues arise our top priority is making sure they are fixed and/or don't happen again.
We know it has taken a LONG time to get this mouse to market and we hope the wait will be worth it for you all. This project has been a labor of love and we want to expand and improve on it as much as possible moving forward. We will rely on your feedback and support to drive that forward.
