Something happened one time that still doesn’t make sense to me. At a certain time, mannequins became a serious issue in the Northern part of Nigeria. I'm not telling you about crime. Not anything major. It's about just mannequins. Ordinary mannequins. They said it was haram. That it was affecting the minds of men. That it made them think about sex. Next thing, Hisbah started moving around shops. Confiscating mannequins. Shop owners began adjusting immediately. Some removed the heads. Some covered them completely with clothes. Some stopped displaying them outside entirely. You would walk past shops and see mannequins looking incomplete. And nobody questioned it. Everybody just adapted. That was the part that surprised me the most. How does something so ordinary suddenly become a problem everybody in the North must fix immediately?
