@joshgessner This phenomenon has run amuck
They’ll sign up then run the 40 in eight seconds
Introspection is the sixth tool
And may involve walking on to a JuCo
The game remains the same
The Brutal Reality of Getting Recruited.
If you're a guy who's throwing 78 to 82 and you go to these showcases, I don't know what you're expecting.
No matter how many eyes are on you, you're not going to get that many offers, especially at the Division One level.
I don't really know a single person who got recruited to Division One throwing 78 to 81.
And I know it's brutal, and I know there's a lot of noise around it like, "All my buddies are going to this travel thing or showcase."
And, "I'm not going to get recruited if I don't go to all of this."
At the end of the day, travel ball and showcases are a business.
They're trying to get as many kids as possible into travel ball and showcases.
They don't care if you don't get recruited.
There's a lot of FOMO around this because everyone goes, and people think they're missing out on opportunities or scouting eyes or whatever.
In reality, if you're not good enough to get recruited, which is your main goal, then I'd rather you save that money and time and invest it somewhere else.
@CoachSwit Saw something similar in JuCo
Highly touted lefty
HS draft pick
6’3
95+ on a properly calibrated radar gun
Coach had everyone take until two strikes the first time through the order
You know the rest
Back when I was coaching varsity baseball in California…
Facing a 90+ drafted arm.
We ran 5 straight suicide squeezes.
Worked 4 in a row—didn’t on the 5th.
Opposing coach: “Teach your kids to swing.”
Me: “Teach yours to defend a bunt.”
We won 4–2.
Adjust…or get beat.
Chase Petty Bullpen Day (Reds)
Smooth 94-97 as he prepares for ‘26 🔥
-Two Separate FB shapes, killing VB on SNK
-CH averaging between 0-5 VB down from 7VB last year.
-Gyro consistently getting to 0H line, no more arm side backup (2H avg last year).
-Executing Sweeper glove side w/ 2K. Graded well last year but inconsistent execution in finish counts.

Want to get recruited from a JuCo?
Stop chasing pitch velocity and throw strikes with a change of speed
Stop chasing exit velocity and make contact
How?
Primary and secondary balance points along with strong Intangibles
Start getting to class
And be ready to walk on
The Red Sox have officially signed RHP Claudio Pereira out of Brazil for a $500,000 bonus, per @francysromeroFR
He’s the top prospect out of Brazil. Currently 6’6, 170 at 17. FB is already up to 90. Good feel for his changeup. Throws a curveball as well.
@SanzeriBaseball Look at that shoulder recoil and lack of secondary balance point
The objective is to prevent runs efficiently over time
Movement and change of speed >Velo
Dr Frank Jobe blushes
This tip can help almost every pitcher.
Front foot down, then throw, is the feeling you want.
Allow your delivery to happen, get to a strong position at foot strike, then bring down the house.
Well timed intensity.
Stay sideways as long as possible.
Build rhythm into foot strike, get violent after. Resist early shoulder rotation, rotate late in a hallway, be patient.
Pitchers, I encourage all of you to learn to hit a crisp fungo.
Backspin, topspin, be able to move a guy side to side etc.
Valuable skill to have in the bag! Be a great teammate.
Don’t tell me man… tell these guys.
They’re only healthy guys who throw 100 or just signed in the draft for $8 Mil.
Game takes what it takes - More guys try to be the anomaly that is Greg Maddux, the more opportunities there are for those willing to push themselves to be the best athlete and pitcher they can be.
Have a nice one & please keep telling kids they’re gonna blow out if they’re not Greg Maddux! Nothing like playing the game scared of getting hurt!
With the new scouting restriction, we’re unable to have college athletes throw in a pro day this year 😢
While we will still hold a Pro Day this year (Feb. 6), I found it only appropriate to give our college guys some shine - they have more than earned it - They are ELECTRIC.
Below is a thread that I will add to over the coming weeks of guys who certainly would have been on the Pro Day roster AND guys that we believe our primed for a phenomenal 2026 season 🧵
First, let’s look at some of the best individual pitches from the winter from both our professional and collegiate groups ⚡️
