@JonathanRDuguay @PlayFor90 Yeah I've been looking it up, the group stage was 7 months ago, lol. That's so convoluted and disorganized it's no wonder people don't pay attention to this competition.
That being said I hope the Spirit take the cup.

The KC Current winning the NWSL Shield did qualify the club for the 2026 CONCACAF W Champions Cup, the team confirmed.

I'm seeing folks upset at David Lee about the #SportingKC salary release (mostly around the lack of highly paid talent).
Lee knows he didn't get enough signings done. Sure he needs to do better. But I feel like he was left with no infrastructure so I'm not surprised.

@salsa_300 @wickmister I'm not giving up on Lee yet. Everyone thought the hire was a coup, and I just can't imagine everyone was that wrong. No one wants to hear it, but he needs time.

@PlayFor90 @wickmister Worse part is that he’s got a 7 year contract. Team might end up paying Vermes n Lee at the same time to be chilling at home. Feels like we might be stuck in our current situation for a few more seasons. All thx to the Illings bad management.

@AthensLegacy I think American football & soccer are just so different. It'd be more like barely hitting the NFL's spending floor (SKC are also underspending)
But I agree, they should have a more complete roster. At least it's not filled with too many bad contracts & they can add more players

@PlayFor90 My argument - imagine if the Chiefs played their first game with 45 on the roster instead of 53. What would we be saying about Brett Veach?? This organization is embarrassing right now. Fault is prob shared -Lee, Ownership, Wickey, the list goes on.

@wickmister I've rooted for many bad teams over the years (I seem to be a magnet for them).
And we knew it would be bad. But man, I'm not sure anyone thought it would be THIS bad.

@wickmister This is basically where I am.
Emphasis on the "ish." Maybe not a whole year. But he's building out an entire front office AND roster. It's less than ideal that it got to where it was.
Kudos to Vermes for getting as much as he did out of so little.

@PlayFor90 I say he gets a free-ish pass this year, because ownership didn't do him any favors in the past. Let's see what happens this summer. Then if he does get anyone, can Wicky coach them? Peter Mallouk is in the business of success and winning, can't see him letting this go to far.

@Shep4Liberty It's all coaching staff and performance analysts (which are an extension) that they've told us.
They haven't announced anything besides Burns leaving. They definitely need to build this out. I wonder if the ownership change is complicating things?

@PlayFor90 How many folks has Lee hired in the front office? I hear the complaints that the cupboard was bare but those roles should be easier to fill than the roster spots. Did he bring anyone with him from NY or leverage his time in the league to build out the front office?

Sporting Kansas City have already conceded 32 goals in just 11 matches, giving up nearly three goals a match. They're currently on pace to concede 97 goals this season, which would shatter the MLS single-season record of 78 goals allowed (set by San Jose in 2024).
