Gaussian Splats are all the rage in the computer graphics world... but can they be used in #GameDev level design? This awesome FPS project (source available too!) seems to say... yes, yes they can! It'll even run on a phone! gamefromscratch.com/gaussian-splat…

Building Final Drop, a browser battle royale on PlayCanvas, with Blender as the level editor and Claude Code orchestrating both over MCP for a few months now. A thread on 9 concrete use cases that worked, with screenshots, plus the meta lesson at the end. 🧵

Finished my #vibejam game & added it to the portal web ring. A 6-DoF flying shooter inspired by Forsaken 64. Uses @PlayCanvas engine, @peer_js for multiplayer, @BlockadeLabs for envs. Art sets w/ ChatGPT, then @MeshyAI to make them game-ready models. Links in 🧵👇 1/6

@playcanvas 's support for #GaussianSplatting keeps improving and adds environmental effects like fog, rain and snow. In addition to LOD and "automeshing", creating tours that run on the web around photorealistic scenes is becoming a very compelling option. Am I the only one seeing "standard" game engines like Unity and Unreal lagging behind? For the latest updates around #3DGS make sure to check out my newsletter (link on top of my profile)

Climbing gyms feel like a great use case for Gaussian splats. You could update an interactive 3D view of the gym after each route reset, so people can see what’s changed before they visit. It could also make feedback easier: instead of “that blue route near the corner,” someone could point to the exact section of the wall. This one was uploaded to SuperSplat and runs incredibly smoothly on the @PlayCanvas engine.

The BR victory moment in Final Drop needed more drama. Fireworks are visible from far away, casting light and reflecting across the water. 🎆 Developed in PlayCanvas, coming soon in the browser.

This collision mesh was simplified from a marching cubes pass on a voxel scene generated from a gaussian splat. To me it is <3. This was done in the latest version of splat-transform, to be released soooon.

I finally finished my Gaussian Splat based FPS demo. It's a @playcanvas project, runs in a browser. On a real photoscan. With physics, baked lighting, pathfinding NPCs. Here's how 👇

Perhaps I will never see Moscow's beautiful metro stations for myself. But SuperSplat lets you pay a virtual visit. Watch to the end to see the voxel-based collision rendering switched on. 🧊 Runnable link 👇

The @playcanvas team has solved collision for 3D Gaussian splats. Install splat-transform via NPM to get a CLI tool + library that can output high quality voxel-based collision. Here you can see a splat navigated in first person mode with voxel rendering toggled on/off. 🧵
