@nickrmanes This is about two blocks from our Plum Health office in Corktown, and it's been incredible watching it transform and come to life - construction crews have been working on it for more than 6 months.

A revitalized Corktown home dating back to around the time of the Civil War era is hitting the market soon.

At Plum Health, we wholesale medications for our patients, and we sell these meds to our patients at-cost, saving our patients collectively tens of thousands of dollars annually - it's a great feeling to save our patients money. I love seeing @mcuban talk about removing PBMs!
Ryan Saavedra@RyanSaavedra

Mark Cuban (@mcuban) does a great job explaining how middlemen pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) drive up the cost of prescription drugs for Americans, thus setting up the need for Congress to pass reforms Cuban: The US has the highest drug prices in the world "because we are the only country that uses PBMs"

If we want lower premiums in America, pay doctors to care—not insurers to process, delay, and deny. 🔥

And Mark—Maine is already proving the model. The state’s Mending plan automatically includes a DPC membership paid by the insurance plan itself, because actuaries know DPC lowers downstream costs enough to pay for itself. 📘

He’s at it again! @mcuban is tweeting about Direct Primary Care, and it’s bringing a wave of fresh attention to the space. Mark has already shaken up drug pricing with his @costplusdrugs —wholesaling medications with a tiny markup to fight sky-high pharmacy costs.. 1/many

@mcuban 1. How would you mandate and track where a subset of HSA dollars go? 2. Currently DPC works well because it’s a bunch of mission driven, hardworking doctors who give a damn. Lower the barrier to entry and that may change. This matters mostly for the promise off downstream savings

Curious what healthcare geeks think about the idea of a short-term response to the ACA premium subsidies discussions: put $100 per month into an HSA that can only be used for a Direct Primary Care monthly subscription, and the balance of the expected subsidies to be used as originally planned for premiums. Having DPC should lower the plan's cost, which should allow premiums to be lowered rather than raised. Thoughts? What am I missing? @SenRonJohnson @SenBillCassidy @SenRickScott

@the_drjames @mcuban @DiamondPhy Glad to see you on this thread! the more self-insured companies adopt DPC, the greater the savings for their employees and their overall health care spend. Keep up the great work Dr. James!

@mcuban @AHammoudMI These self-insured companies that work with our Direct Primary Care practice here in Detroit / Royal Oak / Van Buren / Lansing / Corunna see MASSIVE savings by getting 90% of their employees care from us. The same would be true for Insurance Companies if they adopted DPC.

@mcuban @AHammoudMI Speaking for our Direct Primary Care group here in Michigan, we engaged with a school district with 700 employees. They are self-funded. The staff had 3,170 in-person encounters, 5,448 virtual encounters, they saw a 2.16x ROI, and a Plan Savings per employee of $1,778.

@AHammoudMI @mcuban @AHammoudMI - glad to see you weighing in on this - Paul Thomas, MD with Plum Health in Detroit / Royal Oak / Lansing / Corunna / Van Buren. With DPC, we can pull 90% of claims OUT of the insurance pool, and that drives down overall costs for the patients and the insurer.

@mcuban Insurance companies will raise your premiums when you increase HSA allocations. Why? Bc they fear it will lead to increased claims based on the likelihood you’re more likely to pursue care given you have the resources to do so. It’s pretty disturbing.

@mcuban @mcuban; some states, like Maine, are already doing this with Mending (formerly Taro Health). The DPC plan is hand-and-glove with the insurance plan - they know that the patients who engage in DPC have lower downstream costs. mending.com/direct-primary… we are pushing for this in MI.

Today I removed a fish hook from one of my patient's fingers. We saved them $350 by preventing an urgent care visit. We also saved them a ton of time and stress. They called me at 8:30, and they arrived to our office at 10 am to have it removed. I love Direct Primary Care.
