COLD TURKEY 🦃: A New Yorker captured footage of the Big Apple's famous wild turkey named Astoria braving the cold weather this past weekend. Astoria first arrived in New York in 2024 near Astoria Park, before migrating to Midtown Manhattan. She briefly took shelter at a U.S. Coast Guard Station in Lower Manhattan before returning to her current home in The Battery.

1/28/26 Astoria sat on her favorite bench to take a short nap before she goes bed . She had a snack and drank some water and it’s now time to digest. I will get going again soon . #birdcpp ❤️🦃🙏

It was lovely watching these magpies playing with this bark until one of them picked up something that clearly didn’t belong in nature. From a distance, I couldn’t tell what it was, but after they flew off, I went to check and found it was a paper straw. Scenes like this really frustrate me. We all need to do our bit to reduce waste. And yes, I did take the straw to the bin.

I rescued Mei Mei the Parakeet just after 9am today Wed 10/29. Took her to CAEM (avian vet) but they advise a prelim quarantine as I expected. Home safe w/me now. Couldn't have done this w/out @BagelsAndWalks & so many others. It took a village. Goal = rehome to budgie aviary.

10/06/25. This is Harassment of Wildlife by dog owner who intentionally unleashed his dog at our wild turkey , Astoria . Astoria thankfully escaped to a nearby tree . She could’ve really been injured or killed . Dog owner laughed and thought it was fun to watch . #birdcpp
