Anyone who thinks Jews are capable of a nefarious plot to take over the world has no idea about us: and how much we disagree. Case in point about the Gail’s/Guardian furore played out in the pages of the Jewish News. First piece written by the lovely Josh Glancy saying we need to stop being to shrill. Second piece written by the lovely Mark Birbeck (who isn’t Jewish and organised the protest outside the Guardian) pointing out how he thinks the Josh piece is wrong. Third piece from the paper’s Deputy Editor, the (also lovely) Daniel Sugarman about why we SHOULD be angry. It’s hysterical but also shows why Jews have a problem when it comes to fighting antisemitism (let alone taking over the world). We don’t agree on ANYTHING.

Lord, grant me patience on discussion of the Michigan synagogue attack

St. Patrick’s Day is not about Palestine or Israel or any other country. St. Patrick’s Day is about Ireland and the Irish people, and we are not a monolith in terms of our belief system on Middle Eastern geopolitics. The Palestinian movement should not be placed at the forefront of Ireland’s national holiday by a mayor who, to my knowledge, has never even been here and who only yesterday openly admitted he had not ‘thought enough’ about the subject of a United Ireland. There are so many things to be proud of in being Irish: our literature, our music, our film, our language. The obsessive grandstanding against Israel, which is very recent in the course of our long and illustrious history, is not one of them. Mamdani should stick to New York, and stop telling Irish people who and what we are. Insulting beyond belief that he co-opts our holiday for his own political agenda.
