@0xdasha The purpose of the death penalty is two fold. 1. Deterence, but mostly rational, clear thinking individuals would be detered. More importantly is retribution. Citizens who live within the law and are violated by criminals need to know the state will punish heinous crimes harshly

maybe a hot take but i think a swift and decisive death penalty would probably disincentivize even severely mentally ill people from committing heinous crimes
