Duty brings me to the Elisabeth Schwarzkopf Christmas Album and I don't think I've ever heard an artist sounding so comprehensively ill at ease. It's like when Princess Margaret appeared on The Archers. I don't think it could feel more awkward even if Edward Heath was conducting.

@lib_thinks Hippydippy! That's exactly the word I've been looking for to describe the book (although I did find the ending affecting). The play lost any subtlety and had ridiculous "Carry On Up The Globe " bits added. Film sounds dire (esp what a friend termed the Call the Midwife episode)

@RichardBratby @nguyenhdi I'm not a great reader but mostly enjoyed the novel, however the play was awful, boring with the "Carry On Up The Globe" interludes. Pleased to hear the film is closer to source but put off by what a friend described as its "Call the Midwife" scene. Of course now taken as gospel.

@nguyenhdi As an adaptation, it was much more faithful to the novel than was the stage version, but then I was never very convinced by the novel. It did, however, feel like a reasonably plausible evocation of the period, and the central performances carried a lot of conviction.

Off to see Hamnet: The Movie - totally sold out at the (admittedly tiny) cinema. Seems there's a vast cultural appetite for engaging with Shakespeare, as long as it doesn't involve any actual Shakespeare.

I enjoyed Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. But if there was a dedication to Peter Sallis, I didn't notice it. I know he died a while ago. But as this was the first full-length Wallace & Gromit project without him, there should have been a dedication @aardman.

@crossjacktar Very subtle but one of the pictures in the end credits was unmistakably Peter Sallis in his famous role as Samuel Pepys

@adydent67 Actually there was another reference in the end credits - one of the pictures was unmistakably Peter in his famous role as Samuel Pepys

I worried there was no reference in the end credits to Peter Sallis, but this makes up for it totally.

Signal wasn’t great at the show once it got busy ar we couldn’t post any pictures. The Team did us proud, we were in some very competitive classes and all but Wexford bought home a rosette and three bought home sashes, Nightshade, Quercus and Kreuzer 🖤🖤🤎

I always tell people that the best bit of Whit Friday is the finale at Denshaw, and to go there LATE. Tonight was a great example of that - I was posting videos fairly regularly throughout the evening, but the last one I posted was at 10.54pm (24 minutes after last sign-in)...
