Sometimes it’s just not your problem. Not only that, but you don’t have to clean up the mess you left in your wake, because it’s kind of not your fault. Sometimes you let someone else deal with the fallout from a situation you didn’t ask for, as compassion towards yourself

For the Trump administration to understand: The Strait of Hormuz is NOT OPEN. The UAE does not and will NEVER accept the Islamic regime in Iran imposing CONDITIONS on access. The UAE is not Britain or the EU. It does not accept any terrorist actor restricting freedom of navigation. As for Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia negotiating to keep the regime afloat, understand this: no state has a legitimate right to decide who may pass and under what terms. That is international law, not a bargaining chip. Shame on United Kingdom, NATO, European Union, and anyone who tolerates this regime’s terrorism and piracy.

The 15 year sentence given to one dealer is ridiculously cruel, especially given Perry had 5 separate suppliers ffs! One of his Doctors who actually acted unethically by supplying it illegally to him through a 3rd party got only 8 months supervised home detention! The judge in the case deserves to rot in hell for that kind of bias

The Matthew Perry Ketamine case is so dumb. The man purposefully took a large dose of an anesthetizing substance, alone, in water and then drowned. That isn't the fault of the person who sold him vials of the exact substance he specifically requested to buy. We need to have some personal responsibility here.

@DellAnnaLuca As PJ O'Rourke pointed out about Swedish tax rates back when - brain surgeons would paint their own houses which is just as insane as house painters doing their own brain surgery.

Offhand — * Vacillation on masks, with abundant motivated reasoning in every case. * Promulgation of made-up thresholds with no evidentiary basis (e.g. 6 feet). * Authoritarian delight in nanny state intrusiveness (policing the beach and such). * 180 on many issues around BLM. * Lack of effective response from science funding bodies. * Denial of aerosolized transmission. * Changing of trial readouts so that they’d occur after the election. (Confirmed to me by senior OWS officials.) * Crazy criteria for vaccine distribution. * Adamant insistence on vaccine efficacy beyond what was supported by data. * Almost complete lack of follow-through on OWS (on pan-variant vaccines). I’m sure there are more, but those are the ones that stick out.

My Polish-born grandfather was a prominent New York dentist. One day a year, he would wear a green kippah. Today I carry on that tradition. Happy St. Patrick's Day from Jerusalem! ☘️🇮🇱

There is no pandemic. There is no reason to shut down travel from China. Irrational tech bros are stopping to shake hands. Covid is not airborne. Masks don’t help. Just wash your hands. Lab leak theory has been debunked. There is no need to test nursing home staff for Covid. Believing that Covid comes from a lab is racist, but believing that it comes from unhygienic bat soup is not. There is no evidence that the Furin cleavage site could be artificially inserted. WHO is certain that Covid does not come from the Wuhan lab. You can get infected in church but not at a BLM protest. The most likely origin of Covid are pangolins. No, you cannot access the NIH grant data for the Wuhan lab any more. There is no evidence of harm from vaccines. Fauci had nothing to do with funding gain of function research in the Wuhan lab. Trust the experts.

@Rainmaker1973 The universe is fundamentally integer. There are a finite number of Planck cubes, which means a limited number of digits of pi (which can be thought of in integer form) to calculate volume. And you cannot have a fraction of a quark or lepton, so … integer.

december 2019. doctors in wuhan hospitals notice pneumonia cases that don’t fit the usual patterns. patients aren’t responding to standard treatments. some have no clear exposure history.

we're making @blocks smaller today. here's my note to the company. #### today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation. i'll be straight about what's happening, why, and what it means for everyone. first off, if you're one of the people affected, you'll receive your salary for 20 weeks + 1 week per year of tenure, equity vested through the end of may, 6 months of health care, your corporate devices, and $5,000 to put toward whatever you need to help you in this transition (if you’re outside the U.S. you’ll receive similar support but exact details are going to vary based on local requirements). i want you to know that before anything else. everyone will be notified today, whether you're being asked to leave, entering consultation, or asked to stay. we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong. gross profit continues to grow, we continue to serve more and more customers, and profitability is improving. but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly. i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. i chose the latter. repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead. i'd rather take a hard, clear action now and build from a position we believe in than manage a slow reduction of people toward the same outcome. a smaller company also gives us the space to grow our business the right way, on our own terms, instead of constantly reacting to market pressures. a decision at this scale carries risk. but so does standing still. we've done a full review to determine the roles and people we require to reliably grow the business from here, and we've pressure-tested those decisions from multiple angles. i accept that we may have gotten some of them wrong, and we've built in flexibility to account for that, and do the right thing for our customers. we're not going to just disappear people from slack and email and pretend they were never here. communication channels will stay open through thursday evening (pacific) so everyone can say goodbye properly, and share whatever you wish. i'll also be hosting a live video session to thank everyone at 3:35pm pacific. i know doing it this way might feel awkward. i'd rather it feel awkward and human than efficient and cold. to those of you leaving…i’m grateful for you, and i’m sorry to put you through this. you built what this company is today. that's a fact that i'll honor forever. this decision is not a reflection of what you contributed. you will be a great contributor to any organization going forward. to those staying…i made this decision, and i'll own it. what i'm asking of you is to build with me. we're going to build this company with intelligence at the core of everything we do. how we work, how we create, how we serve our customers. our customers will feel this shift too, and we're going to help them navigate it: towards a future where they can build their own features directly, composed of our capabilities and served through our interfaces. that's what i'm focused on now. expect a note from me tomorrow. jack
