Education 5.0 Moves Into the Marketplace as President Mnangagwa Commissions UZ Flagship Projects HARARE – President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s commissioning of the University of Zimbabwe Industrial Incubation Hub and the UZ Specialist Medical Centre marks more than the opening of two new facilities. It signals the next phase of Zimbabwe’s higher education transformation, where universities are increasingly expected to produce businesses, technologies and specialised services alongside graduates. The two projects represent the practical evolution of the country’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model, which shifted universities beyond their traditional mandates of teaching, research and community service to include innovation and industrialisation. The latest commissioning demonstrates a deliberate move from research and prototype development into commercial production and service delivery. positiveeyenews.co.zw/2026/07/28/edu… @MoPSEZim @MoPSEZW @DeptCommsZW @mhtestd @InfoMinZW

H.E. President @edmnangagwa commissions two signature projects at the University of Zimbabwe: the Industrial Incubation Hub in Msasa Industrial Park and the UZ Specialist Medical Centre in Avondale. Addressing the University community, the President commended the institution for embracing heritage-based education and innovation, which he said are driving national development in line with the National Development Strategy 1 and the country’s industrialization and modernization agenda. “Universities have been liberated from the confines of laboratories and lecture rooms to engage in life-changing programmes for innovation, community development and national transformation,” said President Mnangagwa. “Knowledge must now be turned into production, into goods and services, and into value for our economy.” The President noted the vast scope for student-led start-up companies within institutions of higher learning. He said this model will provide the necessary impetus for young people to convert ideas into tangible products, goods and services that contribute to economic growth. On health, the President said the newly commissioned UZ Specialist Medical Centre will provide oral health, ophthalmology, assisted reproduction through in-vitro fertilization, and trauma services. These are services that were previously available largely in the private sector and were unaffordable to many. “Government will not tolerate the prevalence of opportunists and so-called health cartels that seek to undermine access to quality and affordable healthcare for our people,” President Mnangagwa warned.
