Dispatches from summer camp.

A growing trend called “teen takeovers” where scores of young people converge on small areas have raised safety concerns in cities across the U.S., and prompted officials to develop strategies to control the trend. abcnews.link/TG4m8yS

"Those cool kids on the Internet doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, and their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens

Modern female UNSC soldiers: ''FEMALE UNSC SOLDIERS ARE JUST AS GOOD AS SPARTANS CHUD!'' Female UNSC soldiers in 2010:

Can anyone logically explain the difference here?

Ain’t no way crocodiles are afraid of shovels 😭

A pantomine horse isn’t a horse. An open secret isn’t a secret. A hot dog isn’t a dog. A shrinking violet isn’t a violet. Crow’s feet aren’t feet. Fair game’s not a game. Trans women aren’t women.

"Your son was drawing dragons and cool motorcycles during the Rosa Parks video so I believe you should explore options for pharmaceutical grade methamphetamine"

Emily Wilson after watching the Odyssey: ‘The film presents an Odysseus who feels very bad about things that he's done in war, and is struggling to process them in a very modern, psychiatrised way – and needs drugs to do so! He seems to feel bad about being a warrior, and we never actually see him get to do much warrioring ... Nolan makes the protagonist a likeable, all-American hero; Homer's Odysseus wants glory, and he wants to get spoils from the sack of a city! I kept looking in vain for a sense that this was a film about glory. This is a film that has an interest in shame, but I don't think it has any interest in glory.’

the issue is that BOOKS are falling in quality and a ton of published works lately are fanfic-level literature. It's not that fanfics are suddenly better, it's that published books have dropped massively in quality
