@BagelPolling @erat_perfect What good is a hoarded asset that is not producing them any income? It is no good for them to live on. Sure it will be worth more when it is sold but the income will then be realized.

@erat_perfect Im hesitant about net worth because I think that would be too complicated and expensive to administer. RRSP's already have mandatory drawdown time periods (my grandfathers experiencing this) so I don't think its a huge issue either.

I have a radical solution. Cut OAS. Clawback starts at 45k, cut max OAS by $3200 to bring it back in line to what it was when the program started in 1952. Throw most or all of these savings into tax reforms. Boom we boosted national employment. ctvnews.ca/canada/article…

@BagelPolling I still maintain, that the way to do it is to bring the thresholds inline with those for Canada Child Benefit. It makes the entitlement of retired millionaire with 0 dependent much more shamefully apparent.

We can boost gis by $3200 if we are concerned about actually poor seniors. This would still save a monumental amount of money.

@CoopTory I'm not sure I buy that argument with the cost of energy. I really struggle to see how cheaper energy is not beneficial economically.

@PotsyPastures Consumption taxes are the last ones you want to cut, economically.

This is good politics but bad policy. The fuel tax cut (like most consumption tax cuts) will not be fully realised by consumers. Expanding spending while cutting taxes is short sighted. Windfall revenues should be saved and invested.

@CoopTory When I heard the rumours about this last night I had the exact same thought. Will look good from a politics standpoint, but is not good policy in the long run. Disappointed in this decision, but at the very least its better than the complete ~25c reduction proposal.
