BYU went 11-2 last year. Stumbled a little down the stretch but bounced back incredibly well from a 5-7 first year in the Big 12. BYU had high expectations, projected to be a top 15 team entering the preseason but lost their quarterback in August and turned to a true freshman at QB who joined the team in May. Way too much was put into the loss of Jake Retzlaff at QB by people outside of BYU. Bear has certainly exceeded expectations and is a big reason they are 10-1 but the biggest reason is because BYU has a GREAT TEAM. Balanced, efficient, well-coached. The obsession from the committee on blowing horrible teams out and losing close games to good teams is asinine. BYU has played a lot of really good teams this season. I would contend it is more impressive to go 10-1 against BYU’s schedule than 9-2 against Notre Dame’s. Losing to the two best teams on your schedule shouldn’t be rewarded. BYU went 1-1 against the two best teams they played. The Tech loss was bad but why does Alabama get a pass for a loss to Florida State but BYU doesn’t for losing to the No. 5 team in the country? Oregon gets credit for wins over Penn State and Iowa because we thought they were good at the time. BYU gets knocked because of close wins to Arizona and Iowa State because people thought they weren’t great. BYU has a top 5 resume in the country. Sure they aren’t a top 10 power rated team but let’s reward teams that over perform, not teams that under perform because of “eye test” and Vegas and power ratings. Assuming BYU beats UCF, BYU is a playoff worthy team regardless of what happens in Arlington and it is ridiculous that isn’t a given.

Horrible officiating that’s marred what was a great game for 30 minutes. The reality now is the game is over. A real shame. @DukeMBB is the better team, but @TCUBasketball deserved better. Just a horrible end result the Frogs best interior player gone for good. I don’t care who wins I really don’t but this games control was lost by the officials.

Duke was going to win that game IMO how it was trending but the way that game was officiated down the stretch took away any chance that TCU had

Edmonds was found like three times before going to the ground. Just a horribly officiated game.

Such bad officiating. Miss a goaltending call and then T up the coach for complaining? Gotta have thicker skin

I’m not sure if @stephenasmith was trying to purposely trigger my @BYUMBB fan friends when he said on @FirstTake take that AJ should not have gone to BYU. Don’t let him. He’s actually a very nice man & the show is mostly schtick. No NBA GM is calling him. I’m not sure there was a better fit for AJ to thrive in this season. No one could have predicted all the injuries. I’ll always remember his season as one of the best in @Big12Conference history. The coaching, the competition and the love shown by Cougar fans this season along with his incredible talent and character could not have worked out any better for him.

@streakyjack BYU went to the Sweet 16 last year? That isn't winning? He had five season ending injuries this year.

@PotterColton KY did say he was building an NBA system. Well, he's getting his star player each year a lot of press & to the league. But it's not leading to winning. As a BYU fan that matters more. He needs to fire his D and recruiting staff.

Some jarring numbers from BYU's loss to Texas that I think sum up the Cougars season: 0 bench points 6 total assists 4/22 3-pt field goals Texas: 36% from 3 Biggest deficit: 17 points Hard to win with inconsistent production from a majority of your team. Hard to win when you don't shoot the three well and can't guard the three. Hard to win when you consistently dig yourself a big hole.

"I love this place. I'm happy I chose (BYU). I definitely made the right decision. I knew coming in I made the right decision ... everything about this place, I'm just happy. "As far as the season, it's tough dealing with that type of adversity, but I'd rather do it with nobody else." AJ Dybantsa on his season at BYU and deciding to come to Provo. 🔥

Yes. Absolutely zero question that the answer is yes. And the most obvious proof is Bruce Branch III committing to BYU. Dybantsa playing at BYU and having the season he had is going to pay so many long-term dividends for BYU even if the Saunders injury cratered this season.
Brian Drake@DrakeFantasy

BYU paid $7 million to AJ Dybantsa. He led the nation in scoring. Cool. They finished 10th in the Big 12 and were a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament after losing a key guard to injury. They lost to an 11-seed Texas team that finished 10th in the SEC. Is that NIL $ well spent?
