The Truth About Ron DeSantis Ron DeSantis is the son of a nurse and a cable box installer. He went to and graduated from public school. His first job out of high school was as an electrician’s assistant. He worked his ass off to get to Yale University, then worked his ass off at Yale to get to Harvard Law. He didn’t use his fancy law degree to go into private practice and get rich. He joined the Navy to serve as a JAG officer in Iraq. Later, when he got elected to the US House, he became a founding member of the Freedom Caucus. Those are the people fighting to limit government and stay true to the Constitution. You know, conservatives. I’m sure you already know the rest. I’m not going to start listing off his accomplishments as governor because it would be far too much to read for a Twitter post. I just wanted to clear up any confusion about his ”elitism” and the idiotic obsession over whether he’s supported by “the Establishment.” Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush and Meghan McCain could get a picture of DeSantis tattooed on their foreheads and it would not affect my vote one iota. This is not a soap opera or TV drama. It’s a question of who is best suited to give my children their best shot at a decent country. Right now, our country, both Republicans and Democrats, are stuck on stupid. We have a really good shot at changing that. If you disagree, that’s fine. That’s your right. I’ll just make a deal with you: go easy on lying about my preferred candidate and I’ll go easy on telling the truth about yours. Thanks for reading.

@PowerOwn45 Or maybe the governor of N.C. exercised his own prudent judgment and didn't play favorites among those who will be competing in the primary for Graham's seat and appointed someone who will focus on the issues and not be campaigning. But sure Candace, let your TDS run wild.

I know some of you may be new to America but when a Governor appoints an interim Senator it’s actually none of the president’s business. When a president issues what is tantamount to an order on social media for who to pick he is not in his lane. Lanes are important. They separate republics from autocracies. They’re like, a big deal.

@PowerOwn45 You're a petulant child. You keep posting, and I'll keep pointing it out, and maybe one day you'll be less stupid than you are today. We've already established you don't have a 10th grade vocabulary. We'll see...

I feel silly for explaining this because I know all the civic scholars crashing out in my comments are well aware, but when a state governor makes an apppintment—or decision of any kind for that matter—he or she is supposed to feel pressure from constituents, not the POTUS. The latter is an inversion of how our Republic was designed to work. If a governor wants to appoint a senator’s sister to fill a seat on an interim basis, that is his or her prerogative. And it’s important that it remain their prerogative. We’ve been eroding away the separation of powers for a century now and it has predictably delivered a government that barely listens to its citizens, much less does their bidding. What may not seem like a big deal to you is actually a pretty big deal in terms of the American experiment.

@PowerOwn45 What you understand about government wouldn't fill a shot glass, but you're probably not old enough to drink, and if you are you're too irresponsible. Piss off little boi. Can somebody find this idiot his pacifier so he'll take his nap?

@PowerOwn45 I think you should cry more. You can't prosecute someone for what YOU 'think' they might do. Are you stupid or something?

@werz_jo That’s called reactionary populism. It doesn’t do much good long term. Quite the opposite.

@PowerOwn45 I feel like many of his voters feel the same way. The temptation to throw it all away in pursuit of good goals is strong. I feel the pull to dismantle the status quo in order to quickly achieve results myself oftentimes.

For Trump, Republicanism is not the greatest form of governance ever devised; it’s an obstacle to be overcome. This has been glaringly clear for a decade now, but we can pretend it’s not if it makes you feel better.

Do you understand that I’m not arguing against the Constitution? Do you understand that my beef is not with the prescribed process, but with the executive branch involving itself inappropriately? Do you know what a bully pulpit is? Do you know why it’s called that? Stop wasting my time pseudo intellectual gobbledygook.

@PowerOwn45 It's not a straw man. It is a fact you cannot refute. I get you dont like it but that means absolutely NOTHING. What means something is the fact that it is how the constitution is written. Dont like it, amend it. But until then stfu.

@PowerOwn45 See, where you go off the rails is "tantamount to an order", which is phrasing you use because your brain is broken. Take a class in critical thinking. Try not to post again until you pass it. Also, see if you can get some mental health help. You need it badly.

@PowerOwn45 It wasn't solidified until the governor signed off on it. Again, please learn how it works. He may have taken POTUS' advice. There is nothing wrong with that. Both may have thought it at the same time. Others may have weighed in. Either way... it's legal AND a great idea.

Did he have a right to ‘recommend’ it on social media? Yes. Is it a good practice that maintains a healthy republic? No. For the life of me I’m not sure why this is hard to grasp.
dandillion@Draggen75

@PowerOwn45 Maybe you're new to America but even the President if the United States as a right to free speech and his opinion which he gave. 2nd the Governor doesn't have to listen. 3rd it's temporary when the term ends the people of South Carolina will make their new choice known

@AshleySinclair0 Stop pretending like the decision wasn’t solidified as soon as he sent that tweet. It makes you look either naive or disingenuous (you’re probably both).

He’s so certain it’s never happened before… Except Kennedy and others: John F. Kennedy (1960–1963): Kennedy influenced his own Senate seat replacement. After his election as president, his college roommate Benjamin A. Smith II was appointed as a placeholder in Massachusetts. Smith stepped aside in 1962 so Ted Kennedy (then old enough) could run and win the seat. This was a clear family/political strategy coordinated with state officials.

@jjschneider1062 Solution? We don’t need a solution. The process is fine. We just need the president to stay in his lane so as not to blur very important lines within the Republic.

@PowerOwn45 So let’s hear your solution that puts a warm body in that Senate seat. All that complaining means nothing if you don’t have a solution that is legal and makes logical sense.
