@arthistorynews Quick question: in your wonderful book, there is a portrait on page 373 which is uncaptioned. Is this a Joseph Wright self-portrait? Btw my friend, to whom I gave this book, really enjoyed it.

little did I know that in addition to many truly wonderful works, Sofia Gubaidulina (rest in peace❤️) also wrote one of the worst pieces of music I have ever heard bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

“Rinehart … published a lengthy statement on Monday lamenting that Australians were ‘very short on understanding’ of the need to revitalise the economy with sweeping changes to drive investment.” (“Very. Short. On. Understanding.” 🧐)

Remembering the late, great Polish contralto Ewa Podleś, who should have been turning 73 today.

@arthistorynews I'm looking forward to reading it after him. Was introduced to Joseph Wright on a visit to my cousin in Derby.

I’m strangely fascinated by the blinginginess of Trump’s Oval Office. What does it mean? Here’s an art historical take. 🧵 1/

OK, we need your help to settle a debate in the QI office. Do you say... 1. Who, What, Where, When, Why OR 2. Who, What, When, Where, Why

I am in Nottingham. Hotel checkin and dinner have had to wait: a ding and a whirr caused me, instinctively, to chase this tram gliding down the street. A city with trams feels a civilised city: one that seems further along an urban evolutionary path. I bloody love trams. #trams

4) The Birth Year Age Code Norwegians give the year of their birth not their age. Instead of saying "I'm 31" ... Norwegians say "'93". Took a while to get used to this. Led to some unintended hilarity. Politely nodding along as someone tells me their girlfriend is 97.

Love your Inner Classical Music Geek
“Music, I believe, must be emotional first and intellectual second.” In memory of Maurice Ravel, who passed away on December 28, 1937. His enchanting melodies and masterful orchestrations transcend time, speaking profoundly to the human experience. Do you love Ravel’s Music?

Does anybody outside of Yorkshire know what "have a gander" or "fancy a mooch down town" means? I'm trying to determine how much context to add 🙈 (I'm avoiding written accents in my cosy historical—the Lilje Damselfly novel—to keep it "mainstream" but dialect is sneaking in)
