84 years ago today, Japanese fighters shot down three California National Guard Soldiers during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Sgt. Henry Blackwell, Jr., Sgt. Warren D. Rasmussen, and Cpl. Clyde C. Brown with the 251st Coast Artillery Regiment are believed to be the first three American casualties of the attack. Today we honor their sacrifice and remember the 2,403 total lives lost. #PearlHarborDay

Kyle Hendricks has announced his retirement after 12 Major League seasons. As a member of the 2016 Cubs, Hendricks led MLB with a 2.13 ERA and was part of the World Series championship team that snapped a 108-year drought. He tossed 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball in the 2016 NLCS clincher and started World Series Game 7.

I am massively oversimplifying here, so free to yell at me, but doing my best w/ imperfect information here is roughly how I'd try to break down the massive Senate tax bill to a friend: 1. Extending/increasing prior GOP tax cuts w/ broad reach (larger standard deduction; raises child benefit $2K->$2.2K per kid; rate cuts across income bracket) Cost: ~$2.5 trillion 2. Tax cuts that benefit the 1% (cut for top bracket; 199A changes; estate tax exemption lifted to $15M) Cost: ~$1 trillion  3. Trump 2024 campaign grab-bag (deduction for seniors; no tax on tips; car interest deduction) Cost: ~$.5 trillion 4. Business tax breaks (expensing, R&D, etc) Cost: ~$.5 trillion 5. Funding for immigration enforcement & military budget Cost: ~$.4 trillion  6. Major safety net cuts targeting Medicaid and food stamps (work requirements; new cost sharing; paperwork requirements) Savings: ~$1.3 trillion 7. Clean energy cuts (cuts subsidies for rooftop solars, EVs, heat pumps, tax credits for clean energy) Savings: -$500 (sorry if this # is out of date!) 8. Total deficit hit of +$3 trillion Again, these numbers are moving targets and some of what goes into which bucket is subjective. But this is how I'd try to wrap my arms around the big conceptual pieces and the relative spending weight given
