@iokmm @YankeeGunner Non-players “why didn’t he just run straight?” Players… “ you have to step a do shield the ball.” Havertz’ body movement was great forward play.. not trying to draw contact. Credit to Redknapp and Sturridge for pointing that out.

@TABurk @sidlowe Agreed mistimed tackles in the box are always penalties. Also this went down easy narrative is driving me bonkers. It doesn’t take much to take someone down running at full speed.

@PrestonGolson @sidlowe The defender went to ground from behind and made contact. Rival fans are showing an angle where the contact is obscured. It's a poor, poor challenge and a definite penalty.

Oh my word. I know, I know, I’m late. But I have just seen Arsenal’s penalty from last night… again, said a million times, the great hope of VAR is the great disappointment: it hasn’t eradicated dives, it has encouraged them

@sidlowe The only time one can be sure there is a dive is when there is clear no contact. It’s impossible to know when running full speed how much force it’ll take to go down. Ever heard of a shoestring tackle in the NFL? It brings down a player with ZERO incentive to go down.

Loads of you saying there’s contact and lots of you helpfully supplying the other angle. Thanks. Agree, there is contact. Still don’t think it’s a penalty, though. But would also agree that it’s less of a dive than it looks. Slight easy/willing fall prob better. (Point on VAR still entirely stands though.)

@amkelly802 @CBSSportsGolazo @ChristinaUnkel Do you watch the NFL? A game where there is zero incentive to go down. Grown adult, peak male athletes are tackled all the time with ankle swipe tackles. When you’re moving at speed it’s easy to knock people off balance.

@CBSSportsGolazo @ChristinaUnkel Simulation. You're telling me, Christina, that a grown adult male would drop to the ground over that contact? Because if you are, then the game has gone to shit.

“Ultimately, for the referee on the field, the decision of penalty was correct.” @ChristinaUnkel explains why the penalty in favor of Arsenal’s Noni Madueke was the right call in the moment ⚽️

@CBSSportsGolazo @jamesbenge @ChristinaUnkel A grown man fell on trailing leg while running at full speed. In the NFL men trying to stay on their feet get tackled by ankle tackles all the time. When running fast it’s easy to unsettle balance. It’s physics

@Lea_EFC My only question is it was clear on the replay show during the game. Why do people feel compelled to post about a non-controversy? But I’m engaging with the post so mission accomplished I guess. Jokes on me lol.

@CFCArmy1905 @Lea_EFC game isn’t played in slow-mo. Have a full grown athlete man fall on your trailing foot, while shifting and running at speed, and also trying to dribble past other grown men. In American Football athletes trying to stay on their feet are brought down by ankle tackles all the time!

I’m often very critical of referees, but this was excellent officiating. The goalkeeper clearly pulls out of the challenge, and Haaland then deliberately changes direction to create the contact. 👏🏻

Still baffled: why would a disinterested, disengaged, distracted @washingtonpost owner hire a seemingly disinterested, disengaged, distracted CEO, suffer perpetual criticism and $ loss?  Lots of rich people would buy it, and even more execs would gladly run it.  Show me a single entity anywhere at anytime doing anything that worked without strong, engaged leadership. Kinda matters. I bet @dongrahamdc1 or Kara Swisher would pull together a group to take it over. Bloomberg could easily swoop it up himself. Just sell it.

@jackbelg11 @TheTennisLetter @CocoGauff Players yell at the boxes all the time now. Its awkward and unseemly at times. Kyrgios used to berate his box for not cheering loud enough. Regular tennis watchers understand exactly what she means.

@TheTennisLetter @CocoGauff, what I don’t understand is the comment; “lash out at my team”. Why would you do that anyhow? You are the one playing, they give you advice, prepare you and that’s it. Years ago, players couldn’t even get coaching. Be grateful ☺️ . On court coaching is a luxury!

Coco Gauff was asked if smashing her racquet after her loss to Svitolina helps her move on “Is there part of you that thinks it’s healthy to just smash that racquet and get that loss over and done with? Does it help you move on?” Coco: “Yeah, definitely. I think for me, I know myself. I don’t want to lash out on my team. They’re good people. They don’t deserve that. I know I’m emotional. I just took the minute to go and do that. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I don’t try to do it on court in front of kids and things like that. But I do know I need to let out that emotion.. otherwise I’m just gonna be snappy with the people around me. I don’t want to do that. Like I said they don’t deserve it. They did their best. I did mine. Just need to let the frustration out.” (via Australian Open Press)

@TheTennisLetter I was surprised as I always thought her a little more classy than this. There is nothing wrong with having frustrations, especially when you play so badly, but do that in private. Not in the corridor or on the court.

@champagnefab22 @AMA0THOMAS @EbukaMeansGreat Exactly. The offense is about filling lanes to create multiple threat options. Saka can weak foot cross or hold for a bombing White who can strong foot cross it. Strikers are always going to want to be the first option and get annoyed, but this was smart tactical play.

@AMA0THOMAS @EbukaMeansGreat Seeing him doesn’t mean he would give the ball to Gyok, there are better options. Gyok might be off or he could lose the ball while trying to balance, the best option was White running to make a square pass and you could see how perfect that was, football is all about calculation
