Why on earth does the UK tax year start on April 6th?
It’s a bit of a head-scratcher, but it all comes down to a wild mix of Julius Caesar, the Pope, and 12 "lost days" in the 1750s.
Historically, the British New Year actually landed on March 25th to line up with the spring equinox. But because the old Julian calendar didn't quite match the earth's orbit, things got messy.
When Britain finally switched to the Gregorian calendar to catch up with the rest of Europe, the dates shifted, and we ended up with the quirky April tax deadline we still use today.
Whether you're following the Western calendar or the Orthodox Easter traditions in Cyprus, this time of year marks the real "new year" for your finances.
Now that we’ve hit April, the clock is ticking for expats. If you have UK rental income, capital gains, or contractor earnings, April 7th is the first day you can get those tax returns submitted.
We’re here to help you navigate the filings, get your tax codes right, and make sure your social insurance benefits are protected.

Why are British taxpayers sending £171 million a year to the Taliban?
Supposedly it’s “aid” for Afghanistan’s most vulnerable, especially women & girls.
But under the Taliban:
Women are banned from education.
Women are banned from employment.
Women are banned from public spaces.
This should be stopped immediately.

The NEU teaching union has voted to use its ‘full weight’ to oppose Reform UK – including in the classroom. Who do these teachers think they are? They have no right to impose their politics on impressionable kids, says Joanna Williams buff.ly/flsUSJs

🚨Rupert Lowe EXPOSES BBC Live on Air: A State Monopoly Pumping Out State Propaganda
Rupert Lowe went on the BBC and called them out in the debate when they attacked Elon Musk and X.
He fired back: “What is the BBC? It’s a state monopoly pumping out state propaganda.”
He slammed the bloated establishment broadcaster for pushing biased state propaganda while trying to lecture everyone else on regulation.
Well done Rupert for defending free speech and Elon’s X platform against the BBC’s hypocrisy. 👏🏻

We voted to leave in 2016.
Not “leave a bit.”
Not “leave until someone in Westminster gets bored.”
Leave.
What followed? Years of political tap dancing—Prime Ministers treating the result like a spelling mistake they could quietly correct if they squinted hard enough.
And now—after all that—the big idea is:
“Let’s just rejoin.”
Of course.
Because nothing says stable, serious governance like reversing the biggest democratic decision in modern British history on a whim.
No plan.
No terms.
No clue what we’d have to give up to get back in.
Just vibes… and a superiority complex.
And here’s the part they hope you don’t notice:
It wasn’t even in the Labour manifesto.
Funny that.
Because when politicians actually believe in something, they tend to mention it before asking for your vote.
But this? This feels more like:
“Don’t worry about what we said—this is what we meant.”
You’re not being governed… you’re being managed.
So now the question isn’t just about the EU—
It’s this:
When did democratic decisions become optional?
Because if the answer is “whenever it’s inconvenient”…
Then yeah—
we’re not voters anymore. We’re mugs.

Looks like Labour are U-turning on Jackdaw FINALLY. After weeks of pressure from us, Miliband is backing down.
That’s what happens when @Conservatives force Labour to act.
But one licence isn’t enough. We should be drilling, cutting bills and securing our own energy.
Scrap the windfall tax, axe VAT on energy and ditch the carbon tax. Our Cheap Power Plan would save families £200. Only Conservatives have a plan to get Britain working again.

Let’s see who agrees with me on drilling in the North Sea:
Rachel Reeves ✅
The GMB Union ✅
RenewableUK ✅
Tony Blair ✅
Octopus Energy ✅
Great British Energy ✅
But not the Energy Secretary Ed Miliband ❌
Keir Starmer…?
I sense a U-turn (unless Ed Miliband is really running the govt!)
Andrew Pierce@toryboypierce
Now chancellor @RachelReevesMP agrees drilling in North Sea would generate tax revenue. So sack @Ed_Miliband the Cabinet eco fanatic & get on with it

🔙🇫🇷 Kalimuendo to return in summer
📝 Nottingham Forest's loans manager Owen Coyle Jr has confirmed that Arnaud Kalimuendo "will return in the summer" and remains "heavily invested" in the club, reports the Nottingham Post.
📌 The £26m signing has impressed on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt (4 goals in 10 starts) after struggling for minutes under Dyche.
📌 With Chris Wood turning 35 and question marks over other strikers, his return opens a genuine first-team door.
