@SandyofCthulhu This. I love playing beast races specifically because they have different mindsets, instincts, and worldviews that clash with the human majority of most campaigns. Without that, you're basically just playing an furry archetype, which is usually just kinda cringe.

The more you humanize a non-human, the less compelling those non-humans become. For me one of the lowest points of The Hobbit films was when they had Thorin flirting with Tauriel. Throughout all the books and previous movies, dwarfs showed zero interest in romance. Now suddenly one’s making eyes at an ELF?! Ugh .

@AdeIica @PRabbitholes I liked the story, but I won't lie the delivery was a bit janky. Felt like you needed to read a plot synopsis before it clicked. The dev textures were an artistic choice since it's set in a half-finished video game. I loved the aesthetic and thought it was pretty cohesive

@PRabbitholes Boneworks is a great physics simulation sandbox, but it doesn't really do story or levels that well. Story is so mid and most of it is told to you via mp4s played on a TV, especially disappointing at the end of the game. Levels are mostly dev textures.

@CausticWind @PRabbitholes I mean, it's not a bad game but imo the original is better. Most of its issues are just a solo dev biting off a bit more ambition than he had the resources for. Not a bad game at all though, I still had a lot of fun with it.

@LostLoreScholar All death saves do is make true balance impossible. Either everything is too easy and there's a pretty low risk of actual death, which makes combat pointless. Or everything basically instantly kills everyone with no way to fight back.

@jppheonix @LostLoreScholar Special OC Self Inserts have been a problem forever. Fuck, you should see some of the horrors Old World of Darkness players cooked up. Worse than even the most special of 5e snowflakes. Murder Hobos are mostly just a player temperament issue.

@BlowSlots @BenjiGameDev Meaningful interactions are difficult in VR, since the lack of physicality is something players notice quick. And you're constantly running into pretty brutal performance thresholds with little wiggle room, which makes it even harder.

LotR roleplaying being the key example, but there was a slew of D20 branded games in the 2000s that were officially licensed Wizards products until they rugpulled all their partners with 3.5e, killing the entire venture.

Just watched the new Magic the Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven trailer. I'm not a Magic guy but I AM a D&D guy. This is, to me, the epitome of millennial Dungeons and Dragons. It is... just... so millennial. Also the character designs are tacky.

@josethevrtech My personal theory is that most VR games nowadays are solo efforts that are a dime a dozen on steam (and flat solo indies tend to be cheaper). That combined with the most popular quest games all being free to play has skewed how valuable people see these games.

@josethevrtech VR devs are delusional if they think killing a pirate store will help their sales. The fact it was so prevalent indicates a much deeper value alignment problem that this just straight up doesn't address. You're not gonna convert pirate store users to paying customers like this.

Expansions are a lot more than just their MSQ but it’s such a big part that that fact it was tedious and miserable just killed all momentum and hype DT should’ve had at launch
