What an inspiring story! The first woman physician to be admitted by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Og Glasgow in 1912 is a monumental milestone! And a woman from Bengal is surreal. An excellent example of talent not being a monopoly of a particular group!

In Albany on Saturday evening attending a reception hosted by the Finnish Ambassador, HE Arto Haapea, to celebrate a spectacular light show titled Lighting the Sound, produced by famed light artist Kari Kola in collaboration with Menang Elders as part of Albany’s bicentennial.

Delighted & honoured to meet a pioneer in chemical engineering, Professor MM Sharma, at his residence in Mumbai. I studied his seminal work as a student. Legendary transformative scholars like Sharma don't come often, & my presentation of a UWA black swan was very fitting.

Delighted to sign an MOU with India’s Science & Technology (S&T) Clusters, an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientist in Bhubaneswar. The MOU establishes a structured, long-term collaboration across the Clusters. Another milestone for UWA India!

Delighted to host the Indian Women’s National Football Team members at Neil Donaldson Pavilion last evening. It was a special delight to meet Ms. Sweety Devi Ngangbam, the captain, who hails from Manipur. I was impressed and inspired by the diversity of the Indian team.

@uwanews and India’s Science & Technology (S&T) Clusters, an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 3rd March 2026. The MoU signing ceremony was attended virtually by Dr (Mrs.) Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary, Office of PSA (OPSA); with the presence of @ProfChakma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UWA; @DrVishalChoudh3, Scientist-’F’, OPSA; along with the CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Principal Investigators of the eight S&T Clusters. The MoU established a structured, long-term collaboration across India’s national cluster-led innovation framework. Dr. Maini emphasized the significance of the collaboration and commitment to mission-driven, globally connected innovation that delivers measurable impact for society. This partnership integrated UWA into India’s federal science and innovation architecture, enabling mission-driven collaboration across priority sectors, facilitating joint research programs, co-fund initiatives, startup collaboration, and students & faculty mobility. This works to strengthen India–Australia scientific cooperation and innovation partnerships within the Indo-Pacific framework. This MoU is an outcome of the “First International Conference on S&T Clusters – Making Lives Easier through S&T”, held on 4–5 December 2025 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The conference was convened to foster cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and partnership development. It enabled dialogue across six priority thematic areas and showcased validated, scalable technologies emerging from India’s S&T Cluster ecosystem. Delighted to meet the Wu family from Inner Mongolia, who have come to get their son started at UWA. Although our conversation was very brief, the smile and body language made it clear that they are happy that their son, Wu Weilesu, has chosen UWA! I could not agree more!

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Emeritus Professor John Melville Jones, AM. John began his UWA journey in 1957 and, until very recently, was a regular fixture on our campus. He was very much part of UWA. It was my privilege and pleasure to know him. I’ll miss him dearly.
