Remembering my late father, Pa Ngong, on this #FathersDay. It's been 23 years since he joined the ancestors, but I still miss him. He taught me to value people more than things.

Was born and raised in Brazil but I never liked soccer (futebol). I also dislike all these group sports such as football, baseball, etc. I also abominate small talk about any of these sports. Yet, I pretended I liked soccer during the FIFA World Cup. Not this year! Such a relief!

When I teach liberation theology, I tell my students that liberation theology is pastoral theology because it is a theology of care. The issue is that many pastors do not care, which is why they stand with those who injure rather than with those who are injured.

I'm incredibly excited to be in Abuja at the launch of lenacapavir long acting ARV (LEN PrEP) for HIV prevention in Nigeria. We've gone from oral meds 4x a day every day to injectable ARVs 2x a **year**! An excellent example of how science can make our lives easier and better.

I find it interesting that St. Bob Marley speaks of the rule of international morality rather than international law. He knew international law was a hoax.

Denmark is investing $83,754,486 in textbooks and turning away from its digital-first approach to education. This follows research showing that screens reduce concentration, impact mental health, and hurt student performance. Yet another dynamic to the EdTech debate.

Cameroon: Cavaye Yeguié Djibril Refuses to Return Official Vehicles The succession at the presidency of the Cameroonian National Assembly has sparked an initial administrative standoff. Cavaye Yeguié Djibril, who led the lower chamber for 32 years, is demanding the return of several official vehicles, including a recent Mercedes-Benz and another luxury car, as well as the entire fleet of vehicles older than ten years. The Secretary-General of the Assembly, André Noël Essiane, issued a categorical refusal, reminding that these assets belong to the State and that their management falls solely under the new bureau of the chamber. According to him, the restitution of public property is governed by strict regulations on depreciation and reform, and the final decision will depend on the new president of the institution. Cavaye Yeguié Djibril was replaced on March 17 by the Honorable Théodore Datouo, a member of the RDPC from the West. This renewal also affects the Senate, with Aboubakary Abdoulaye elected as its president. At 86 years old, Cavaye leaves the Speaker’s chair after more than three decades, marking the end of an era for the Cameroonian Parliament.

In 2000, a rising Nigerian rapper decided to stop dodging the question about her sexuality. According to P.M. News, Weird MC openly said she was a lesbian. In an interview with a London-based magazine, she explained that she had never had relationships with men and wasn’t interested in a traditional family setup, though she hoped to adopt children in the future. She said her decision to speak up was deliberate. As her profile grew, she knew the question would keep coming, and she didn’t want to keep “not keeping it real.” Appearing on a Channel 5 documentary about being Black, African, and gay gave her the moment to say it plainly, even though she expected backlash. Weird MC also noted that her family in Nigeria was aware, and she stood firm in owning her identity.

Absolutely right! I teach Cuban foreign policy in Africa. And my students are always surprised when I tell them that Cuba was the only country to defeat Apartheid South Africa militarily. Not once but twice (1975 & 1988), protecting Angola from occupation from Apartheid SA and playing big role in independence of Namibia. Cuba’s crucial role in the defeat of the Apartheid regime, at a time when it was supported by the US and its allies, is not a history Europeans and global elites are told or taught. Celebrate Mandela, sure, but don’t ask any questions…

Did you know Fidel Castro is considered a hero across much of Africa? Founding editor of @africasacountry Sean Jacobs explains how the former Cuban leader supported anti-colonial struggles and helped defeat South Africa's apartheid army.
