Engineering Cancers End. Our paper outlining an interdisciplinary approach to confront the complexities of cancer was just published in the journal @Cancer_Cell. We proposed that an interdisciplinary team focused on cancer using the methods and principles of #engineering will accelerate #cancerresearch. "The most powerful sound I've ever heard was a bell at Moffitt." For 17 years, Paul Anderson, President and CEO of @PortTampaBay, lived with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, returning for regular checkups while doctors closely monitored his cancer before treatment was needed. The approach is called "watch and wait," and as Paul writes, it taught him patience in ways he never expected. Then, just as he was preparing to begin treatment, another routine test revealed prostate cancer. After serving on Moffitt's Board of Directors for more than a decade, Paul came to know the cancer center in a completely different way as a patient. Every family deserves hope when facing a cancer diagnosis. Last week, I visited Moffitt Cancer Center's PEARL Lab to see firsthand how researchers are using cutting-edge nanotechnology to advance new cancer treatments. I was incredibly proud to secure federal funding to support Moffitt's incredible work and help ensure that we continue developing innovations that can save lives.
