Hey @github your automated education license bot doesn't think my faculty ID is a faculty ID and you've got no recourse to a human to fix it. Help!

@antmccrossan @nicholasroche I’m by pretty sure The Escape Collective, not L’Equipe, was the first to report on the carbon monoxide machines. Probably no story there but in cycling it’s important to ask the questions due to the history of the sport.

@mateosfo You burn more fat at higher zones for the same amount of time, just that at higher intensities you *also* burn glycogen. Rule of thumb: workout under 2 hours, higher intensity is better. Zone 2 becomes most efficacious when the rides are very long.

ding ding ding we have a winner. most people never even want to ride a bike at FTP! But zone 2 all day long, that’s where you burn fat and glycogen.
mayor yeet@Sam_Rose1

@mateosfo Makes sense. Most of the benefits for weight loss are in zone 2, which you very much are in for a standard e-bike ride

An “elite cyclist” tried to tell me yesterday that e-bike riders don’t get as much exercise as acoustic cyclists, but the truth is, they very much do. One wild thing about modern life is most people have no idea how their own bodies work.

@mateosfo The study cited found switching from bike to ebike decreased exercise volume. This is obvious. If I replace rides I already do with an ebike I move faster @ same intensity & spend less time exercising. Both true: e-bikes > bike in garage. Bike > ebike for an actual distance.

@daniellloyd1 In other words, I predict not only will the pavement crashes be not as bad, but the likelihood of crashing will be less despite many saying otherwise. (Not that I know anything from experience, though.)

@daniellloyd1 There’s a difference though-You *can* hit the cobbles as fast as you want, say a prayer, and hope. You *can’t* hit a 90 degree turn as fast as you want. Plenty of classics have a 90-deg+ turn into cobbled sector w/o nearly the level of crashing even w similar positioning goals.

A lot of people are (correctly) pointing out that the entry into the chicane that's being put in before the Arenberg will be just as dangerously fought for as it would be into those cobbles. It will be, but every rider would much rather crash on tarmac than on those brutal cobbles. There have been some horrific injuries there over the years. Let's see on Sunday, but I think it'll be a step in the right direction for safety.

@lunarfarmer And downtown is thriving with far less wasted space for empty parking spots. Even in the mall’s heyday I bet the revenue per acre generated was far less than downtown. Time to get rid of mandatory parking minimums and stop building sprawl that eventually rots.

Cars (and really trucks, the norm now) have gotten so much bigger, with much larger front ends and no pedestrian-facing safety standards that a child on a bike on a road is in far more real peril (with high stakes) than when we were kids. Not sure how to deal with this.

@JonHaidt Just read your article in @TheAtlantic Spot on. The only caveat I have as someone trying to give my children a smart-phone free life with plenty of independence, is the danger cars/drivers pose to children. Pedestrain/cyclist deaths have *doubled* in the last decade.

@Nathan__Guerra do you think the UCI went with MyWoosh in part because they’ve actually implementing things like points races *in game for everyone*. I wouldn’t be surprised if they add spectator views and better broadcast camera work, either. The platform seems more nimble.

@GeraintThomas86 is the connection between Watts Occuring and the hymn you use as music that the hymn was written by William Williams, known as the “Watts of Wales” and you are the modern Watts of Wales?

Italians: the only things Americans know about from Italy are pizza and The Godfather. Also Italians: what should we play for the Giro start ramp music? How about the Godfather theme? And let’s make sure we keep complaining about MVDP eating pineapple on his pizza.

@EPrecipice @lunarfarmer We had a pizza delivered after my wife’s 15 hours of labor that started at 2 am with our firstborn. First thing I’d eaten since dinner the previous day. Best thing either of us ever ate. Had pizza from the same place at a later date, and it wasn’t the same.

@lunarfarmer The one I ate right after I gave birth. It was cold, I have no idea where it came from, and it was the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

What the F**** @LGUSSupport ? First time using LG channels. Watching a kids movie in LG Channels with 10, 7, and 5yo kids and you, without warning, cut to an ad for a horror movie about undead parents???? Unacceptable. I will not use LG channels again.
