Sex Matters are lobbying the Council of Europe to stop a ban on conversion therapy. Read that again. A UK registered charity is fighting to keep torture legal for LGBT people across Europe. This is happening now. In the final days before a decisive vote. They are not doing it quietly. They are doing it with tools and templates and coordinated pressure aimed at MPs sitting on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. They call it safeguarding. They call it realism. They call it concern. What it is is organised cruelty. Conversion therapy is not disagreement. It is not caution. It is not neutral care. It is mind rape. It is Torture. It is the deliberate breaking down of a person’s sense of self until denial feels safer than truth. Survivors have named it for decades. Medical bodies have condemned it. Human rights organisations have documented it. Courts have recognised it. Sex Matters know this. They are still fighting to protect it. Look at what they are actually doing. They have set up systems to flood MPs at the Council of Europe with emails urging them to vote against a Europe wide ban on conversion practices. They frame abuse as “non affirming care.” They describe protection as criminalisation. They warn politicians that banning conversion therapy would endanger children. That is a lie that gets people hurt. The resolution they are trying to block is about banning practices aimed at changing repressing or suppressing a person’s sexual orientation gender identity or gender expression. That is not ideology. That is basic human dignity. Sex Matters are trying to blur that line on purpose. They want conversion practices renamed and rebranded and preserved. They want the power to coerce without consequence. They want the authority to suppress identity under the language of care. They do not want LGBT rights. Not for trans people. Not for queer kids. Not for anyone who does not fit their narrow idea of what a human being should be. This is not about debate. This is not about free speech. This is not about women’s safety. This is about whether Europe says clearly that trying to erase who someone is counts as abuse. The Council of Europe sets human rights standards for forty six countries. What happens there does not stay there. It spreads. I have just used the Good Law Project’s tool to email MPs on the Council of Europe and make it clear they do not have to bend to Sex Matters’ transphobic pressure. If you live in Europe this affects you. If you care about LGBT people this affects you. If you believe children should not be coerced into denying themselves this affects you. There are more of us than them. They rely on silence. They rely on confusion. They rely on people not wanting to look too closely. Look closely now. Take two minutes. Make noise.
