Much to deconstruct here. Account of Hong Kong "jolly" raises more questions than it answers (though I liked detail about their Chinese contact seeking to cultivate favour with that pair by buying them a KFC🤣); but prefer not to stray into matters that may be aired in a court.🧵

Having one’s front door smashed in at 6.20am is not the best way to start any day - nor is the arrival of an eight-strong team from the counter-terrorism division of the Metropolitan Police as part of an investigation into spying for China✍️@ShiptonMartin wp.me/p8Mk4U-1gzN

@JacotheNorth @Penyrheolgerrig Some issues with Scottish register that limit comprehensive coverage of contacts. Notably any Welsh version needs to include SPADs as well as ministers & the instructing (comissioning) client the lobbyist is making representation on behalf of clearly identified in each contact.

Wales is one of the few countries without a register of lobbyists. Scotland has one. But Welsh Labour governments refused to introduce one. A Register of Lobbyists records meetings between politicians and officials on the one side, with people representing businesses, charities, pressure groups, third sector bodies, campaigning organisations, etc., on the other. It records who was present. Where they met. What was discussed. How long the meeting lasted. For politicians to meet lobbyists and for the meeting NOT to be recorded will be an offence. If @Plaid_Cymru is serious about doing things differently, and being open, then it will give us a Register of Lobbyists.

@g0ldf1nch @si_rubinstein Well obviously nobody knows what exactly he discussed with Benedict; but afterwards he apparently visited the church nearest chequers (outside London diocese) & was friendly with the priest!

@Prof_Weinidog @si_rubinstein I don’t recall the story of getting papal dispensation. Nothing stopping him doing what everyone else in a similar situation does and going up to the altar at Communion time with his arms crossed over his chest to receive a blessing. It’s extremely common and nobody cares

@g0ldf1nch @si_rubinstein Terms of receiving communion indeed binary. Blair essentially a unitarian I think who obtained papal dispensation to receive communion together with wife & children because diocese of London took strict interpretation. Still Johnson got married in Westminster Cathedral whilst PM.

@g0ldf1nch @si_rubinstein Blair & Johnson both Catholics (although Blair only formally converted after leaving No10).

@si_rubinstein More significantly, he would be the first Catholic Prime Minister and in charge of nominating C of E bishops. He went to Catholic school so I’m assuming that he’s a baptised Catholic even if , like me, he dropped it years ago

Andy Burnham wanted to rejoin the EU until he became a candidate in a seat that plainly doesn’t. That isn’t leadership, and frankly I have no clue what the Labour Party thinks it’s doing on this vanity suicide mission.

@Joe___Allen @state_britain Have you considered infrastructure requirement? Thinking esp of Cardiff's victorian sewers. Whole city south of Llandaff just feet above sealevel. Recall fuss over building a single new pumping station? Housing density's primarily a function of high demand & poor transportation.

Watch the churn between the third sector and the Senedd in coming months. We expect lots of charity officials to become special advisers.

Chaz still having a melt down. 🫠 Fact is. Mabon has been Shadow Health for a few years now. He's been PREPARING for this... which is far more than you'd get from a reshuffle etc. Minimising someone's life into who their family is just sounds like jealously to me.
Chaz Evans 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧†@ChazzerEvans

The man in charge of Wales' NHS has never held ministerial office in his life. Mabon ap Gwynfor's biggest qualification? His grandfather was a famous nationalist. Wales has the worst NHS waiting times in the UK. Sleep tight.😲😬🫣

A new voting system meant the Welsh election couldn’t have been further from a two‑horse race – so why was it portrayed as one? Interesting article that certainly reflected my experience on the doorstep of people almost apologising for voting Plaid nation.cymru/feature/a-new-…

@maelnallaen No real need for any flagpoles imho. Can't fly draig goch on Crown property without UJ too. Then they added a pole for 15 gold stars on blue (EU), then a guest one (Royal Standard at state opening, LGBQT rainbow, Ukraine, or foreign dignitaries). Is a protocol nightmare. Get rid.

What he's trying to say is that he wants the Ukrainian flag taken down. Not sure Reform want to show hostility over support for Ukraine considering past connections between former leaders in Wales and Russia.

The Senedd should be flying an equal number of Union Jacks and Welsh flags. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 We have a pro-unionist majority in the Senedd. The flags outside should reflect that.

@1swancelona Assuming on standard assured shorthold tenancy not expired in March. He should be paying the 5 weeks rent for the duration of dissolution from own pocket. Always possible the landlord permitted him 5 weeks use rent-free given costs of re-letting & prospect of new 5 year contract.

@Jordon3Jane @RhunapIorwerth Rhun bought his home in Cardiff when employed by @WalesPolitics . Understand that MS now only permitted to be reimbursed public funds for rent or hotel costs; so he now lets the one place & rents another...🙄

All MD can claim the interest on mortgages on a property in Cardiff if they live outside commuting distance. @RhunapIorwerth or any bother MS wouldn't want a ' company' house. When they leave being an MS they could sell the property and get a windfall as they don't have to repay any capital growth. A number of ex MSs ether sell or rent their property as an Aairbnb.
