this isn't necessarily a terrible change but it's worth being extremely suspicious when a service is failing to meet long-established targets those targets are changed or abolished, rather than addressing the underlying issue of eg underresourcing, overtriaging etc
Jason Killens KAM@jasonkillens

Today we have welcomed changes to how we will manage some emergency calls in Wales. They’ll enable us to focus on what’s important for patients in improving their outcomes.

@lloyd_rm @JolyonMaugham is this really the sort of configuration we want to create ahead of a widely expected reform win in the next GE? because you can be between now and then we'll see a ramping up of anti-abortion rhetoric in particular.

Wes Streeting is happy to privatise the NHS unless the private partners are actually, you know, helping people. This started with gender affirming healthcare. They are now coming for ADHD treatment. If this doesn't affect you already, it will soon. adhduk.co.uk/nhs-right-to-c…

small potatoes in the grand scheme of things but it really puts you in an uncertain spot to be doing a prevent safeguarding on the grounds of far right radicalisation some of the ideas being expressed too prompt that referral are suddenly being parroted by the prime minister

@geeky_gillon yeah got my 11 but naturally today i feel like absolute death and its just wild to me that this is considered acceptable to the point of being unremarkable in a safety critical profession like ours, especially when you do the fashionable thing and compare with aviation industry

@Prog_Para Did you get 11hrs rest in between? There’s lots of labour jobs where you end up with those sorts of shifts intermittently.

cant imagine there are many other professions that would have you work for 15 hours and still expect you to turn up the next day

Let’s not be classist/ableist when condemning far-right riots. Racism isn’t a “working class trait”. It’s woven into the fabric of our society and comes from the top. One of the few things that has trickled down. But it doesn’t have to be this way - we can build a better world.

can't shake the feeling that 'foot injury' is underselling this somewhat
Queensland Ambulance@QldAmbulance

If you are joining counter-protests today please, please be careful. Find a group you trust and stick with it for travel if you can; have an alternative route out if you need to use public transport. Don't start fights. Make sure you have emergency contact memorised. Stay safe.

the argument against these sort of surveillance systems isn't that they dont work or don't have safety benefits, it's that they carry the obvious potential to be used oppressively by far right governments and the prospect of that occurring in the uk is realer now than ever before

probably worth being explicit about this: you have a hugely resurgent far right expressed through both this street violence and the success of reform in the election pointing to a real risk of a far right government at the next election. why build this infrastructure for them?
Nick Dearden@nickdearden75

Cracking down on the civil liberties of the whole country is so obviously not the way to undercut the far right, but it’s in keeping with Starmer’s view that there must be a managerial fix to politics. The worst mindset for this moment 🤦‍♂️ theguardian.com/technology/art…
