Most of the proposed school plans feel like a lose-lose situation (involving literal life and death decisions). Educators, parents, and students alike are feeling unheard, devalued, and anxious. We know that the expertise and agency for change lives in each and every one of us!

Calling all students, parents, teachers, and administrators!!! We see you, we hear you, and we want to help! The Project Imagine Team has designed a series of free online courses/support groups to rejuvenate hope and reconnect despite all of the obstacles we are facing. . .

Art is not a reward. Music is not a reward. Playing outside is not a reward. Reading books of choice is not a reward. Field trips are not a reward. Food is not a reward. Being able to move in a classroom is not a reward. Children are human beings & should be treated as such.

A joyful literacy workshop is foundational to equity work at the classroom level! So excited for this book by @LitCup and @mariapwalther!

How white liberalism can undermine equity work: We emphasize kindness, we celebrate diversity, we host an anti-bullying assembly, we display an I Have a Dream poster. Maybe we talk about implicit bias, carefully avoiding institutional racism. We check the box. Then we rest.

For 3 years, my school took on the one book one school craze. I joined the committee to advocate for books that wouldn’t include titles in this thread. I lost the battle every year. We went with Lemonade War, Charlie & the CF, and Charlottes Web. #DisruptTexts

Barriers need to be replaced with bridges. Consequence mentality is consistent in the way we language about our work. I can imagine schools where the consequence language is replaced with language of hope and possibility. #Imagine4edu

I think all presenters at all Ed conferences should have to label themselves as #StatusQuo idea sharers, or #Transformative anti-racist leaders. That would make it easier to plan out sessions. That’s my biggest takeaway from #ILA19 #IRC2019!
