@SimoninSuffolk There is usually an excellent train service, just not at the moment until the tunnel at Whitehaven is repaired. Buses seem to be thin on the ground in West Cumbria.

@Psi50 Too far though, I'm afraid, unless there's a decent bus service.

I'm back up north in a couple of weeks. Ripon, then Carlisle and Dumfries, and Hexham if there's time. I've never been to Ripon or Dumfries before. Apart from the obvious - Ripon and Carlisle Cathedrals, Fountains and Hexham Abbeys, Carlisle Castle - what shouldn't I miss?

BMW i3 - a new era for BMW and still the ultimate driving machine, apparently. ‘The core of what a BMW should be’. What do you think?

@apple_geoph Your map does include a couple of private steam railways which will never be electrified. But you’re right, it’s a shock to us how little of Britain’s railways are fully electrified. We do have bi-mode trains and one regular branch line is operated by a battery rail car.

St Paul’s Cathedral and Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen to the right. I took this photo some time ago. I loved the sunlight and the shadows. It’s a view that on that particular day, at that particular moment, the scene was unlike I’d ever seen it before. Just watched great episode of Netflix documentary about Gordon Ramsay opening a new restaurant in Bishopsgate, London. It’s always fascinating and inspiring to watch and listen to someone at the top of their game and get a glimpse into their life. Always something to learn from them.

@adipullenLNER The exchange trials of 1948. Entirely appropriate given that Bulleid trained under Gresley.

@JoeBrownLondon Long lost opportunity now, but it would have been a pretty addition to the excellent preserved Paignton - Kingswear line.

#OnThisDay 158 years ago Brixham station opened at the end of a GWR broad gauge branch to Churston by the Torbay & Brixham Railway, as the station for the town provided by the Dartmouth & Torbay Railway was over 2 miles away. It closed 13 May 1963, photo of last day Bernard Mills

Taken from the cab of 6220 ‘Coronation’, a rare photograph that I understand shows both the up and down Coronation Scot services crossing at Preston in 1938. 📸Northcliffe collection

In 1988 my dream car was a Renault 5 Campus. Didn’t have the money, got declined on finance and also the insurance was way too much. Well, today I’ve got rid of that demon in my head because I now have a beautiful new Renault 5. I’m so happy with it. Bit more flash than the Campus though! Merci @renault_uk
