@CancerCanuck I have had the worst post chemo recovery this week with bizarre repetitive dreams. My entire body aches, can barely swallow, still can’t have cold drinks and so much more. Then I read your words and I see I’m not alone. Thanks for all that you do Jason. Jay

Yesterday I was on edge, angry, and extremely irritable. I had to confront many of the changes I’ve experienced over the past few weeks. It was an extreme pain day from the bony mets. (My body is failing.) I submitted the paperwork for my accessible parking pass. (I have new limitations.) I had a social catch up with friends from work. (I miss that part of my identity.) After last night’s Early Onset support group with @coloncanada and our #AYACSM Tweetup, I’m feeling much more like myself today. Through sharing some thoughts last night, I realized I was avoiding my feelings. It forced me to acknowledge the changes and realize that I can (and will) adapt to all of them. Pain? Treatable; a work in progress. Physical limitations? Shitty, but I can adapt. Fewer hikes, more trail walks. Identity? I find fulfillment in volunteering and advocacy. Professional identity can rest for a bit. Onward. It’s a new day. Thanks for being here with me 😀 #mCRC #Cancer

Sorry not been around, this chemo session is worst I’ve ever endured in 2 years. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try to return. Accepting all good thoughts. Jay

My Son turned his truck over three times to avoid a guy on a quad on the road in his lane. I ask for your prayers for my son. The guy on the quad never even stopped to see if my son was alive. I pray for that human as he has nothing but existence at all cost to self in mind

@CancerCanuck I am in my 12th year of metastatic breast cancer and have had the cancer spread to my bones, my chest nodes and my brain. I am currently diagnosed with malignant pericarditis. The cancer is surrounding my heart, which is failing. This is end stage disease for me.

Today kicks off #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth. In spite of all the feel good imagery, pinkwashing, and messaging about #BreastCancer being preventable and treatable, it’s an absolutely horrifying disease. A few considerations: 1️⃣ Metastatic breast cancer ALWAYS kills. A cure for #MBC is a cure for all. 2️⃣ Watch which organizations you donate to. Some of them don’t contribute to research or help survivors. That pink ribbon shirt may as well be from Walmart half the time. 3️⃣ Breast cancer can affect anyone, regardless of sex. If you have breasts, you’re fair game. Men with breast cancer are often unwelcome in disease-specific communities. 4️⃣ In terms of prevention, it is important to conduct a breast self-exam. If you #FeelThemOnTheFirst and seek medical advice for anything that seems out of place, you may save your life. Screening is important but it’s no cure. One organization that does a ton to help folks with metastatic breast cancer is @metavivor. I’m sure there are more, however this organization advocates on all levels and provides peer (and other) support to breasties. They focus on supporting research. The money goes where it should and I’d encourage anyone looking to donate to a breast cancer org to read their About page and see how the dollars are spent. #StageIV #MBC #BreastCancerAwareness
