By design, indeed by American design, Article Six of NATO limits the geographic scope of the alliance. It was shaped by the US (and Canadian) concern that it would be dragged into European colonial wars. The broader issue of US bases in Europe is not a new issue. See Libya 1986.

SECRETARY RUBIO: NATO wasn’t just about defending Europe, but allowing us to have military bases in Europe for our national security. If we’ve reached a point where the NATO alliance means that we can’t use those bases to defend our interests, then it’s a one-way street.

An alien has taken over Rubio. Used to be a huge champion of the alliance. Huge. Years of receipts. Hard to watch the transformation from a respected foreign policy hand to….whatever this creature is…. Rubio knows better on the substance-there’s always been issues with US bases in Europe for our various wars…controversy is nothing new….he knows that…and asking NATO naval forces to fight and die for our war of choice of course is a huge request, and one that any foreign policy hand would tell u is a very tough ask after Trump has disgustingly already mocked NATO for their role in Afghanistan, Greenland fiasco, etc….so I guess Rubio sold his soul for power? Future presidential run? Hope that Cuba is next on our 2026 war tour? A classic case of blind ambition destroying one’s long record of ethics and morals? Sad and disappointing to see.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Washington may need to reconsider its relationship with NATO once the war with Iran is over. It marks a sharp escalation of pressure on European allies that America accuses of withholding support. politico.eu/article/marco-…

NATO will survive Trump and his administration. And what does not kill an alliance may yet strengthen it. Washington is relearning an elementary truth: without allies, the United States may still be effective, but it is less mighty. Alliances are not instruments of command. They require respect, consultation, and advance notice. Allies are not vassals; they have their own voters and interests. Those who ignore the theory of alliances usually get a brutal lesson in how alliances actually work. #WeareNATO
Phil Stewart@phildstewart

I asked Secretary Hegseth at today's press conference whether the United States was still committed to NATO's collective defense. He declined to say yes and responded that it was up to Trump. Trump says the US is 'leaving soon' and has 'nothing to do' with the Strait. He started a war, lost it, closed the Strait, and now he's pretending it was never his problem. This is what failure looks like

How he shows his face in public after that debacle is beyond …Isn’t that considered a disaster in the history of England? I cannot imagine a society that produced some of the greatest writers, poets and musicians… falling for a free speech imposter and charlatan like that.” Absolutely 💯

MESSAGE I wholeheartedly endorse the powerful appeal for peace made by the Holy Father, Pope Leo, during his Palm Sunday Mass. His call for the laying down of arms and the renunciation of violence resonated profoundly with me, as it speaks to the very essence of what all major religions teach. Indeed, whether we look to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism or any of the world's great spiritual traditions, the message is fundamentally the same: love, compassion, tolerance, and self-discipline. Violence finds no true home in any of these teachings. History has shown us time and again that violence only begets more violence and is never a lasting foundation for peace. An enduring resolution to conflict, including the ones we see in the Middle East or between Russia and Ukraine, must be rooted in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect — approached with the understanding that, at the deepest level, we are all brothers and sisters. I urge for and pray that the violence and conflicts may soon come to an end. DALAI LAMA 31 March 2026

@JoePaulGians @Acyn Who cares? That's war. People needing water is life. That's where the war crime comes in. You're not actually allowed to slaughter civilians. Although, of course, that doesn't count anymore because of what Israel did without comeback - so we're all fucked.

Reporter: The president said we might blow up and completely obliterate all of their generating electric plants, oil wells, Kharg island, and possibly all desalination plants. Under international law, striking infrastructure is generally prohibited. Why is the president advocating potentially a war crime and how do you square that with the US aying it does not target civilians? Leavitt: Their best move is to make a deal or else the united States armed forces has capabilities beyond their wildest imagination Reporter: Including potential war crimes? Leavitt: With respect to achieving the full objectives, the president is going to move forward… Reporter: Which of those objectives would destroying a desalination plant most help?
