पूर्वकाल में राजा एक विशिष्ट हाथी को श्रीगज पद पर नियुक्त कर उसका नियमित पूजन करते थे। ऐसी ही प्रथा केरल मन्दिरों में अब भी दिखती है। In past, Kings used to honour a special elephant regularly after appointing him as ŚṛīGaja. Similar practice is seen in Kerala temples even now.

@PunchTantrum Eggs are ovi, not vegetarian indeed for Hindu. But the general def. for vegetarian is pretty ambiguous. The FSSAI def. for vegetarian is quite specific excluding eggs. आयुर्वेद is quite specific in declaring eggs under मांसवर्ग. So, Indian Hindus shouldn't be confused about it.

Myth of Vegetarian Egg —- कोई अंडा निरामिष नहीं होता। सभी अंडे मुर्गी के अंडाशय से आते हैं। जिस अंडे तक मुर्ग़े के शुक्राणु नहीं पहुंचते उसमें चूज़ा नहीं बनता। No egg is meatless. All eggs start in a hen's ovary. Eggs that are not fertilised by a rooster don’t turn into chicks.

In his Arthashastra, Kautilya mentions the following temples of Gods, which are to be constructed within the city : 1. Durga ( Aparājitā), 2. Vishnu ( Aparatitha), 3. Jayanta, 4. Indra, 5. Shiva, 6. Vaisravana, 7. Asvins, 8. Lakshmi and Madirā. The above proves the presence of temples in BCE era. However, these temples are no longer there, as they were constructed of wood.
