Hayek says the problem with Schmitt is that he’s forgotten about the spontaneous self-ordering properties of society which law is supposed to make possible by way of abstract rules.

Japan spent $6.3 trillion on stimulus between 1992-2009 and bought themselves three decades of economic stagnation. Obama's $831 billion American Recovery Act promised unemployment wouldn't exceed 8% (it hit 10% anyway). The EU threw €750 billion at COVID recovery and got energy crises plus inflation.

Paul’s Jihad in Dune Messiah caused the death of 61 Billion, the sterilization of 90 planets, the end of 40 religions. The embrace of Paul’s War Chant (which IS awesome) by TikTok is a perfect metaphor for the future of Gen Z. No understanding of the power of reading.

DUNE theory that’s starting to make sense to me: Chani was pregnant before Paul took the Water of Life. “She’ll come to understand” Paul says. Him turning away from Chani at the end is partly to protect her and their children. She flees to the desert, where she raises them.

The Fremen are the least oppressed and most free people in The Imperium at the time of the events of Dune. They're only bound by nature and their own culture (which is totalitarian despite being tribal). What does oppression mean here? Brown? (they're VERY white in the books)
Carl Zha@CarlZha

I can't get over the fact that Dune is about an oppressed people fighting for their homeland, waging a jihad to bring down a hegemonic empire by threatening to cut off the flow of their most precious commodity after the empire had assassinated their religious leader's father.

@R1b11BK1P4 @HMBohemond Let me guess, your high-level analysis is something like “it’s actually cool and good to live in repressive feudal space empires that ban useful technologies” or something along those lines

I love LotR but sorry I don't wanna hear fans of a book that has "Mount Doom" and "Grima Wormtongue" talk about the naming conventions behind Duncan Idaho

@abu_zafar a lot of this is phrasing cause he does say in the foreword he found it alarming how people picked up the wrong lessons from dune and he wanted to write the story to help rectify that not that he wasn’t already gonna take that path more that he emphasized it more in messiah

This is one of the most persistent myths about Dune Messiah. Frank Herbert had the the first 3 books planned out, with the overall arc of Paul Atreides set from the beginning. He did not "write Messiah because readers didn't understand Dune".
Qenk@elgranqenk

If your criticism of dynamic pricing is that customers will dislike unpredictable prices, then presumably the market will punish businesses that use it and so the alleged problem will resolve itself.

@DrRetroGhoul @Torgan616 Immediately after that, Korba tries to insist that Paul’s victims were brought into the light of his religion, which Paul immediately bats down. He knows what he’s doing is terrible, but he also knows that disengaging would be worse.

"I don't believe that they'd remember Hitler 10 000 years in the future." Didn't read the book award. Paul has ancestral memories. Stilgar has no clue who Hitler was. Paul was comparing himself to a historically insignificant tyrant to convey the unmatched scale of his own sin.
Marshal Bohemond ⚔️⛨ | Space Marine Vtuber@HMBohemond

On the contrary, it's the dumbest part of Dune: Messiah and I don't believe for a second that they'd even remember Hitler's name 10,000 years in the future.
