Expanding donor pool and organ utilization with OCS "heart in a box". Traditional heart ischemic times are ~4h. This heart came from across the country w 10hrs outside body. Fantastic job by @FiedlerAmy, @JasonWSmithMD, @LiviuKlein and HF team. UCSF did 3 OCS and 10txp this mo.

CARDIAC COWBOYS is an upcoming documentary podcast that chronicles the birth of open heart surgery. The story focuses on Dr. Denton Cooley, his work, and the many lives he touched. If you or a family member were a patient of Dr. Cooley, the team would love to speak with you!

🫀Great live case @ecsclub! Total endoscopic aortic valve replacement by @AntoniosPitsis. I am always amazed how good the visualization of the surgical anatomy is through such a tiny incision.

@Chris09201732 Not as many as you might think. On average, I probably create ~10 new reminders in a day that help remember the little things. I use recurring reminders pretty frequently as well - water the plants, car maintenance, payment schedules - that keep ongoing things on track too.

@PurrmanKyle So how many reminders are you creating in a typical day? Or are you using recurring reminders?

#published 📚✍🏻 Super proud. First textbook chapter in the books. "Esophageal Diverticula" in TSRA Review of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Also... congrats to my former co-resident @clauden_louis, the book's Editor, on an awesome accomplishment. Thanks for the opportunity.

@DavidFarleyMD Also, can someone explain how 6 surgeons can possibly have done 10,000 cases/year? 5 cases per surgeon per day 365 days/year?

@DavidFarleyMD This is exploitation and abuse. We should stop pretending that we WANT to live like this.

Mayo Clinic Surgery training in 1915: 365 days of EFFORT without 1 vacation day. 8 interns helping to care for 10,000+ patients/year operated upon by 6-7 staff surgeons. Living in St. Mary's Hospital attic. Paid $50/mo. but room & board fees >$30/mo. EFFORT + FEEDBACK = Success!
