Private Jess Larochelle. Pashmul, Afghanistan. Oct 14, 2006.
RPG blast. Broken back. Broken neck. Detached retina. Blown eardrum.
Two brothers dead. Three wounded.
Alone. In agony. Under heavy Taliban fire.
Jess didn’t flinch.
Machine gun blazing he fired 15 anti-tank rockets straight into 20-40 charging Taliban insurgents. Held the flank. Saved his entire company.
They gave him the Star of Military Valour.
Not enough!
Jess carried those wounds until he passed in 2023.
Canada hasn’t awarded a single Victoria Cross since WWII.
