STORY TIME When we went in for my daughter's 2 month doctor appointment we discussed vaccines. I had made my own schedule for what I thought was best for my daughter, which included delaying some vaccines and skipping some of the later doses. The schedule I made gives her great coverage against potentially severe outcomes of illnesses while also limiting potentially severe outcomes from overloading her with vaccines. Her doctor agreed with my plan and entered all of the vaccines we wanted and the dates we wanted them, into her chart so nothing would be missed or accidentally given. The doctor left and said the physician assistant would be back to give my daughter the vaccine we wanted for her 2 month visit. We only wanted DTaP at this appointment. The physician's assistant came in and stated that she was giving my daughter the DTaP vaccine. We left and baby girl handled the vaccine well. Fast forward a month later and I had received a call saying our next vaccine appointment was too soon. I messaged the physician assistant letting her know about the call, sent her the vaccine plan we had discussed with the doctor, and asked if we needed to push dates out. The physician's assistant said she would look into it. Later that day she messaged me back saying we were ok to come in as scheduled. She then sent another message saying that instead of just the DTaP vaccine, she gave my daughter a combo shot including Polio and Hep B at her 2 month appointment, which her chart indicated she should not have had the first doses of those vaccines yet. My daughter's chart was marked with every vaccine she should get through 52 weeks old, which dose it was in the series, and the exact dates she should get them. We discussed the vaccine plan that day, before her vaccine. The physician's assistant told us the vaccine she was giving her and did not inform us or ask consent to give her the Hep B or Polio vaccine. I AM LIVID We were planning on doing the Hep B and Polio vaccines at a later date (months later), but giving an infant a vaccine without explicitly stating what the child is getting is careless. In the medical field you should be reviewing your patients chart before giving them anything, you should know exactly what your patient needs & what you are giving them, and you should be getting consent for every specific medication/treatment/procedure you are doing. So, regardless of how much I may be over reacting, I am filing a complaint with the state's medical licensing board because her actions were reckless

@hollar_varmit I believe we are legally supposed to get a print out but I double checked (I file all of the medical forms I receive) and they didnt give us one during that appointment Ive never had to sign for one for her or myself so I dont think we have that law

@Q_wacko I’m not sure if it applies in ever state, but here a parent must sign a separate form for consent for each vaccine given. Clearly stating which vaccine it is. Get a copy of those form from the doctors office for your lawyer.

@SootLady I asked about that after it happened and they do actually have the standalones available (which makes me even more angry that it was available and not used)

@Q_wacko The trend is combination vaccines. The standalone versions are probably not readily available at many pediatricians' offices. You need to verify before appointment they have it and don't take your child if it isn't.

@MeeshFL We originally were against DTaP but she was born with an airway condition so if she got whooping cough on top of that she would be in a very bad situation. If she didnt, we would have likely skipped it

@Q_wacko Congratulations you still injected your baby with of the most dangerous vaccines on the market. DTaP is THE reason we have the bogus 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury act.

@PN_1984 Our hospital was GREAT about declining vaccines during pregnancy and postpartum. We declined hep B as well but the assistant gave it at her 2 month appointment without our knowledge

@Q_wacko 15 years ago I declined hep B vaccine in the hospital after my baby was born, planned to get it from ped at the 2 week visit, hospital administered it anyway, against my consent & didn’t tell me, pediatrician saw it in the chart afterwards.

It could be that they ordered the shits but they weren't given. This happened to us with our second at birth. They ordered hep b and it showed up on the vaccinations but they never administered it. You can call the hospitals medical records to see what she was given since everything has to be notated.

@JungleShrink How can giving vaccines without consent be standard of care? That is my concern though since the medical board review committee is made up of mostly doctors

@Q_wacko Just as an FYI make sure you use as much objective evidence as you can and base it all on informed consent. The board will generally send this to a random third party unrelated physician or PA and will say the PA practice was standard of care unless you have a specific issue

@Q_wacko You have to sign next to each vax before they give them, my kids vax records have the vax listed , who gave it, date, and my signature Have you checked that? Btw, I wouldn’t do it the traditional way I did before, my kids are older now though

Not an oversight. You should consult with an attorney. And then find a new doctor. I'm not kidding. Your PA s medically negligent in carrying out your Drs orders, which were your explicitly communicated wishes. The plan for the next year was communicated, agreed and written in the chart. And then step one, the PA fucks it up. Hep B is one of the bad ones. RFK Jr's CDC will publish studies next year showing the harms, and you're going to be even more livid, so take action now! The crux of the case is this: You and the Dr agreed on DTAP, and the PA gave Pediarix. I'll bet the Dr office hasn't even had dtap on inventory in quite some time, so there's a good chance your Dr was aware it wasn't even possible then. If Congress won't reform this broken system, or only recourse is to hold practitioners accountable in civil litigation.
