Today’s announcement from @SecBlinken regarding the Rapid Support Forces’ ongoing atrocities in Sudan is welcome but long overdue. Sanctions against General Mohamed Hamdan and the UAE arms dealers fomenting conflict are an important first step to help end the genocide in Darfur and human rights abuses elsewhere in Sudan, but more is required to secure long-term peace and accountability for the Sudanese people. We urge the incoming US Congress and administration to continue to raise awareness of and carry forward bipartisan work to help resolve this conflict.

We strongly condemn the Rapid Support Forces’ abhorrent campaign of mass killings and sexual violence in Eastern Al Jazirah state over the past week.
The ethnic targeting of innocent civilians and the use of rape as a weapon of war cannot go unpunished, yet these heinous crimes continue unimpeded as external actors like the United Arab Emirates exacerbate the conflict.
We urge the international community to take all necessary measures to protect civilians and end this ongoing cycle of atrocity.

By providing the RSF with arms, the UAE is prolonging a devastating conflict in Sudan that has already left over 12 million people displaced and nearly 25 million in dire need of humanitarian aid.
We urge @POTUS to push for peace and stability in Sudan, including by creating and enforcing an arms embargo, as he meets with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed today in DC.

We are gravely concerned by the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces' ongoing siege of El Fasher in North Darfur, which has killed hundreds of civilians and is obstructing food and medical access for over a million more.
@POTUS and the intl community should act immediately to help prevent another atrocity like the ethnically motivated massacres seen last year in El Geneina, including by pressuring those supplying arms to the RSF, such as the United Arab Emirates, to abide by the @UN arms embargo.
