This is 100% on point. When I lived in South Carolina, I worked for a state agency (Continuum of Care for Emotionally Disturbed Children - COCEDC) now called Continuum of Care (COC). Yes, you read that correctly, especially the 'Disturbed Children' part. I initially started as a temp, but was soon hired on permanently. I was responsible for creating the files for the case managers. What I began to notice was that 100% of the children were placed on some type of medication, (i.e., Ritalin, Lithium, etc.). I saw children as young as 2 years old placed on these mood-altering drugs! Most telling was that approximately 99% were boys and approximately 90% were White boys.
That was over 30 years ago. No social media. No whistle-blower protections. Lord knows I wish I could got back and change things. 😭💔
South Carolina established COC in 1983 as a pilot program and made it permanently in 1986. So for 40 years, the state of SC has drugged and emasculated (emotionally and physically) boys as young as 2 years old just because they were doing what God created them to do: be active, curious, playful, competitive, etc.
For all those children who were damaged by those drugs, I beg your forgiveness for not having the courage to stand up and say something.
