LOCAL UNIONS RAISE $3M FOR TEAMSTERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND Teamsters affiliates across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico came together on Saturday to raise another $3 million for the Teamsters Scholarship Fund, helping to deliver hundreds of new scholarships to the dependents of active Teamsters for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Union leaders, business agents, and rank-and-file members celebrated the major investment during the 2nd Annual Reception of the Teamsters Scholarship Fund in Los Angeles, Calif. Applications are still being accepted for 600 new scholarships for the children, grandchildren, and dependents of Teamsters. Member families are encouraged to get their applications in this year no later than March 29. “In the Teamsters, we take care of our own,” said General President Sean M. O’Brien. “We could not be more excited about the sustained growth of our Teamsters Scholarship Fund. And it’s so heartening to see all our affiliates across North America show up for each other to invest in the next generation of Teamsters and grow the labor movement. President Tom Quackenbush, Secretary Treasurer Chuck Greenfield, and Business Agent Stan Koniszewski met with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York this morning for discussions. A few topics discussed were Senator Murphy’s DSP Oversight Letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy which asks many questions about the Amazon Delivery Service Partners (DSP) business model that raises major safety concerns and labor concerns. Discussions also included Pilot Retirement Age and that Teamsters strongly oppose raising the mandatory pilot retirement age to 67. NYS Cannabis and the Safer Banking Bill was also discussed among other important topics to protect the hard working members in New York State. BREAKING: UPS AGREES TO REINSTATE TEAMSTERS IN LOUISVILLE Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman have reached out to rank-and-file Teamsters terminated yesterday by UPS in Louisville to personally let them know the company has agreed to reinstate the workers. Approximately 35 specialist and administrative workers at UPS’s Centennial hub were let go after UPS claimed their labor should be performed by management. The workers overwhelmingly voted to join Teamsters Local 89 in October. After demanding an immediate reversal of the termination late on Thursday, O’Brien and Zuckerman intervened directly with UPS labor management to reach an amicable resolution that brings all members back to work. The workers and Teamster leadership spoke by phone on Friday. The resolution to recognize specialist and administrative workers as Teamsters extends to members of Local 89 and members of Teamsters Local 705 in Chicago as well. The swift reinstatement avoids any potential labor action. All affected workers will receive full back pay and return to their positions on their next scheduled workdays. “The union achieved a great result for our UPS members in Louisville, and we couldn’t be happier to see them clock back in as Teamsters,” O’Brien said. “Both sides immediately came together and were able to resolve the situation on the ground. This is the outcome we were looking for. Now it’s time to do what the Teamsters do best, and that’s get back to work.”

CELEBRATING MEMBERS IN NEW YORK DURING THE HOLIDAYS Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman gathered with the rank-and-file during an annual holiday celebration for Teamsters Local 456 in Elmsford, New York, on Saturday. Local 456 Secretary-Treasurer Joseph Sansone, President Louis Picani, and other representatives, business agents, and shop stewards joined the Teamsters leaders to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifices of members in 2023. The Teamsters have experienced a successful year of challenge and opportunity, delivering an historic new agreement at UPS, securing record contracts at ABF and TForce Freight, and putting major new organizing campaigns into high gear at Delta Air Lines and Amazon. “We can’t forget who we work for and who we must protect every single day of the year — the rank-and-file of the Teamsters Union and their families,” O’Brien said. “As this year winds down, we still have major battles ahead to win big for the members in brewery, freight, and other core industries. But like today’s celebration at Local 456, we must remember to take time to honor every Teamster and give thanks for their efforts to keep our union strong.”
