Penn's season ends with a 105-70 loss to Illinois in the NCAA Tournament. What a fun team to cover my senior year here.

@v_asato13 @NBCSportsPR Wait, are you trying to compare the Winter Paralympics to the Summer Olympics? There's coverage of practices because the host broadcaster provides the video. The problem with the Paralympics will always been that it follows right after the Olympics. Hard to find more hype

@Quaker2001 @NBCSportsPR But Olympics had commentary for everything and coverage of PRACTICES while you could hardly find much hype or promotion of the Paralympics. I get there are less events but mainstream sports media barely mentioned them.

Really cool moment tonight postgame after VCU upset UNC. VCU head coach Phil Martelli Jr. made a point to shoutout the student reporters that made the trip. Lots of great stuff this time of year, but this was a really awesome, genuine exchange.

@v_asato13 @NBCSportsPR Probably not that much higher since Paris didn't exactly get a ton of viewers. The problem with the Winter Paralympics is that it's much smaller than the Summer. 4400 athletes in 22 sports versus 600 athletes in 6 sports. There's just much less to cover

@NBCSportsPR How much higher would the numbers be if you gave it the coverage it truly deserved like the Paris games.

.@PennMBB star TJ Power is battling an illness ahead of Thursday's NCAA Tournament matchup vs. Illinois. Without him, Penn has no shot. With him? That’s where things get interesting. Could the Quakers be this March's Cinderella story? 🔗 jdlnotebook.substack.com/p/with-power-p… #MarchMadness

@MontalbanoNY @SoCalCMH @NBCNews Well domestically, the not-relevant-to-the-MLB-season WBC seems to be more popular and more engaging than the relevant-to-the-NBA-season NBA Cup. And yes, the international exposure that it's not just an American thing certainly helps the cause

Having set attendance and broadcast viewer records, the World Baseball Classic will return in 2029 or 2030 and at some point, could be moved to midseason, when clubs would be less likely to restrict players. nbcnews.com/sports/mlb/wor…

@Quaker2001 @SoCalCMH @NBCNews I never mentioned the ratings of the NBA Cup. That, like the WBC has a lot of flaws too. The difference is the Cup is relevant towards the NBA season, the WBC is irrelevant towards the MLB season.

@rockstar0783 @Emma__Bertrand @Buccigross Part of the provision with the Olympics was that they couldn't have teams of athletes. Someone would still have to back them, so would it be "Hockey team from Russia"? Not sure how else that would work. Still on the NHL and/or the IIHF if they wanted to allow that

The 2028 World Cup is an NHL/NHLPA for profit initiative. Zero politics-just pure hockey Patriotism. Would you ban Russian players from playing in the NHL?--Maybe you would--But they are not. Then why and how would you ban union members from an NHL/NHLPA event? The event is selling the game, not making statements. A huge majority of fans want Russia in. The players want Russia to play. And the NHL should want it. They make a major contribution to the business of the NHL. I'm a little surprised the PA would agree to a tournament without all of its members. And if other countries are threatening not to allow their NHL players to play in a fun and awesome hockey tournament, then I'd say, "OK. You can tell your players that."
Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦@SportsnetSpec

@Buccigross Awful, awful take here. Until Russia stops killing innocent Ukrainians, they don't deserve to compete with the civilized. And that's aside from their record of cheating at high level sport. And if you're asking, "What about the USA?" my answer is, "You've got a point there..."

@sportswithben1 Tough to figure how that would look. How much value would they want to keep in the Turner linear networks? I feel like it wouldn't be until the following set of TV deals that we might see major changes

IF by this time next year CBS Sports and TNT Sports are a single fully-integrated corporate unit, could we see some changes to the tournament schedule? Surely CBS would want to air all four Elite Eight games? Would they want the First Four as well?

@SoCalCMH @NBCNews The NBA in season tournament actually are regular season games which mean something except for the championship game. The WBC is an enhanced exhibition tournament that has no positive impact on the regular season. People are excited for the WBC because MLB is a bad product.

@INTLBaseball24 Hopefully this means we'll see MLB players at the Olympics. I know that's a different animal than the WBC, but that would be a good test run, even if the owners might be hesitant

The fact that Manfred is even speaking of this as a realistic possibility let’s you know the owners are open to the idea because the tournament was a massive success. Ratings for non-US games blew away previous records.

A few hours after delivering one of the most remarkable performances in Ivy League men’s basketball history, Penn junior TJ Power sat alone in his hotel room and let himself cry. “It’s emotional,” said Power, a Shrewsbury native. “A lot has gone into this three years in college. To have a moment like that, it makes it all worth it.” Power was once a five-star recruit and Gatorade Player of the Year at Worcester Academy. But as a freshman at Duke he averaged just 6.7 minutes per game in 2023-24. He transferred to Virginia the next year, averaging 9.3 minutes as a sophomore. But this season, with coach Fran McCaffery as a guiding light, Power has rediscovered his joy for the game in what he describes as a full-circle moment: bostonglobe.com/2026/03/18/spo…
